I forgot my master password, what can I do?

Your master password is the password you chose when you first created your account. It is used to unlock all the content you saved into Dashlane, including your other password and your payment methods. For security reasons, it is not stored anywhere on our servers.

I cannot remember my password

Your master password would :

  • Have been 8 or more characters long
  • Include at least one number
  • Include at least one upper case letter
  • Include at least one lower case letter

Be careful that your caps lock key is not active on your keyboard when you enter it.

If you are unsure of what you're writing and think you may make a mistake, you could also open a text editor (like Notepad on Windows, or TextEdit on Mac OS X) and write your password there. Of course, do not save this file afterwards, and delete everything you have written to keep your master password safe!

If you have a Pemium account, you may also want to try your master password on our Web app in case it is a problem with your computer or device. To do this, go to your Web App and try to log in to your account. If you can access your passwords in the Web App, it means that your master password is correct.

Can I reset my password?

There is no existing password recovery procedure. Your master password is the key to all your data. A succinct explanation of this is provided here. For security reasons, it is not stored anywhere, neither on your computer nor on our servers, so that it cannot be stolen. Your data is totally undecryptable without your master password. Therefore, we cannot reset your password or provide you with an alternative way to regain access to your data. You can, however, reset your account so that you can continue using your Dashlane account.

Reset account

If you are unable to remember your password at all, you can reset your account.

To do this, click on the link below and enter the email address that is linked to your Dashlane account and click Submit. We will then send a confirmation number to your email address. Take this number and enter it on the new page to reset your account.

Important: this will cause all your data to be deleted. This is the only way to use Dashlane again from the same email address.

Click here to start the account reset procedure.
