Important: Turn on a recovery option before you need it. Without a recovery option, you might need to reset your account if you forget your Master Password. A reset erases all your data.
Dashlane doesn’t store or share your Master Password, so we can’t send your Master Password to you or reset it. To check whether you’ve forgotten your Master Password, follow the steps in our troubleshooting article:
Dashlane offers recovery options for every account. When you turn on an option in advance, you can regain access to your account and keep your data. Review each option in this article to find the one that fits your account.
Note: If you have a passwordless Dashlane account accessed with a PIN, your only recovery option is an account recovery key.
Regain access to your account with a recovery key
Important: A recovery key works only if you generate it before you lose access to your account. If your account has a Master Password, follow the steps in our troubleshooting article to check whether you’ve forgotten it:
With a recovery key, you can regain access to your account if you forget your Master Password. You can also use your recovery key if you can’t log in to a passwordless account with your PIN. You keep all your data.
To recover your account, enter your recovery key and verify your identity. If your account has a Master Password, we’ll also ask you to change your Master Password.
A recovery key is optional, but we recommend one. Store your recovery key outside your Dashlane account, because you need it when you can’t open your vault. Keep your key in a safe place with your other important documents.
Set up and use your recovery key
To use your recovery key, verify your identity with an email verification code or a 2-factor authentication (2FA) code from your authenticator app. You can’t use 2FA recovery codes sent by text message for this step. Make sure you can access your email or authenticator app before you need your recovery key.
Your recovery key and your 2FA recovery codes are different. Your recovery key is a random 28-character code that you set up, save, and enter when you can’t log in. 2FA recovery codes are 16 characters long and grant you temporary access to your account so you can turn off 2FA.

If you unlock Dashlane with your face or fingerprint on an Android or Apple device, you can also turn on Biometric recovery. Then, if you can’t log in with your Master Password, you can recover your account with your face or fingerprint. You keep all your data.
