You can prepare in advance for an employee's departure or a member's removal from your plan. Advance prep protects data and keeps access intact for everyone who needs it.
Prepare before an employee leaves
Ask the employee to share all work-related logins
Have the employee share all work-related logins with the Full access permission level before they leave. Share these logins with a manager and with anyone at the organization responsible for knowledge, tools, and security.
Important: If a member has work-related logins they didn't share with Full access before they left, you can't access those logins or their account after removal. Ask them to share their logins with Full access now, if they haven't left yet.
If they've already shared their work-related logins with the right people, ask them to confirm they shared those logins with the Full access permission level.
More about how to share logins and change sharing rights
If you’re an admin of an organization using Password Management or Credential Protection without self-hosted SSO, you can turn on Login list visibility. Use the list to see each plan member's login names and creation dates, and to check which business logins a member still needs to share before you remove them from the plan.

What plan members need to do before they're removed from a plan
If your plan has Spaces and the employee has personal data in their Personal Space, they must export their personal data before departure or removal. If they log in with single sign-on (SSO), they'll permanently lose access to their account and all personal data as soon as you remove them. If they log in with a Master Password, they may still lose access to their account and personal data if they don't prepare.
If your plan doesn't have Spaces, plan members will lose access to all data as soon as you remove them.
Revoke the employee's access to work-related logins
If your plan doesn't have the Spaces feature, you’ll remove all the employees' data, including work-related logins, when you remove them from the plan. You don't need to take any other action.
If your plan has the Spaces feature, turn on Revoke access to company items for removed users in your Smart Space Management policies before you remove the employee. This setting revokes their access to work-related logins. After that, remove them from the plan when they leave the organization.
Update admin or billing contact info
We recommend that you keep more than one admin on your plan at all times.
If the employee was your billing contact, change the billing contact before you remove them.
Remove a member or admin from your professional plan
We recommend that you remove a former employee from your plan as soon as they leave the organization to revoke access to their work-related logins. You'll also free up the license for a new plan member. Find your unused licenses in the Users tab.
- Select the Dashlane D icon in your browser toolbar and enter your admin Master Password, if prompted.
- In the Dashlane browser extension pop-up, select More, then Open the Admin Console.
- Select Users.
- To remove one member, select the 3-dot menu in their row and select Remove user. To remove multiple members, select the checkbox for each member and select Remove.
- Confirm in the pop-up.
If you need to remove an admin, follow the same steps.
After removal, the member's name appears grayed out in the Users tab. To restore them, select the 3-dot menu and select Reactivate.
If a member had a pending invitation they never accepted, their name disappears from the list when you remove them. Dashlane cancels the invitation, and you can reinvite the member later.
For security and privacy reasons, Dashlane prompts removed members to turn off 2FA the next time they log in. If they plan to switch to a personal account, tell them to turn 2FA back on afterward.
Manage employees who left before removal
Can I get access to an employee's account or logins after they have already left?
In most cases, no. If a member had work-related logins they didn't share with Full access before they left, you can't access those logins or their account.
If you removed the member fewer than 30 days ago, you can re-add them to your plan and log in to their account to access work-related logins. To log in to their account, you may need access to their email or device, or you may need to use recovery methods:
Can I revoke access to work-related logins after an employee has already left?
The answer depends on how the employee logged in and whether your plan has Spaces:
- SSO, no Spaces: The employee permanently lost access to their account when they left. You don't need to take any action.
- Master Password, no Spaces: Remove them from the plan. They'll lose access to all data in their account, including work-related logins. See the preceding section in this article:
