Import your data to Dashlane using the Credential Exchange Protocol (CXP)

With Credential Exchange, you now have a secure, simple way to move your vault.

You can move passwords, passkeys, verification codes, and other item types between Dashlane and other participating password managers or third-party apps that support Credential Exchange. Currently, participating password managers for iOS include Apple Passwords, 1Password, and Bitwarden. On Android devices, participating managers include 1Password and Bitwarden. The feature is part of a broader industry push for open standards. This approach gives you more control and flexibility.

Before, you needed to use an unencrypted CSV file to move data between password managers, which made the data visible to anyone who accessed the file. Credential Exchange provides a standardized, secure transfer that keeps your data protected throughout the entire process.

Before you start, check that your Dashlane app is updated to the latest version.

Availability

Apple

Credential Exchange is available on Apple devices running iOS 26 or macOS 26 or later. This feature is available in the Dashlane app for iPhone, iPad, or your Mac, but not in the Dashlane browser extension.

Android

Credential Exchange is available on devices running Android 10 or later and updated to the latest version of Google Play Services.

If you don't have a compatible password manager, you can import your data from a CSV file.

How does Credential Exchange work?

With Credential Exchange, you can skip the manual, multi-step process of exporting and importing files. You won’t have to switch between apps or copy and paste logins individually, and the process takes minutes instead of hours.

For example, in the Apple Passwords app on an Apple device, you’ll select the export function, choose the items to export, and select Dashlane. Your credentials will be securely transferred to Dashlane, ready for use across all your devices.

However, when you use the Dashlane Android app, you'll start in Dashlane to import data from another participating password manager.

The Credential Exchange standard is being developed by the FIDO Alliance, which includes Dashlane and several other member companies. We're actively implementing this standard across our products to give you a smoother, more secure way to transfer your credentials.

Credential Exchange instructions for Apple Passwords on Apple devices

If you haven’t updated to iOS 26 or macOS 26, you can follow the steps in the import with a CSV article:

Limitations

  • Apple Passwords stores logins, passkeys, verification codes, and Wi-Fi items. Apple doesn't support the transfer of Wi-Fi items with Credential Exchange, so only logins, passkeys, and verification codes will be included in your import or export.
  • At this time, Dashlane doesn’t support the transfer of Collections.
  • Bank account information is imported as a Secure Note.
  • Passkeys need an internet connection to be transferred.
    • All other item types don’t require an internet connection for transfer between apps.

Use these steps to export and then import data from Apple Passwords to Dashlane:

  1. From the Home screen of the iPhone Passwords app, select the 3-dot menu in the upper-right corner and then select Export Data to Another app.

  2. You can select all items, deselect all, or select items individually. Select Continue.

  3. On the Export Passwords screen, the process is explained. Select Continue.

  4. On the Select a Destination screen, select Dashlane. Select Continue.

  5. On the screen with the imported item count, select Continue in "Dashlane."
  6. You’ll receive a confirmation when your import finishes. Select Done.

  7. Open your Dashlane Apple app, and your data is ready to use.

Limitations

  • For specific information on which items 1Password supports, check this article on 1Password's support page:

  • At this time, Dashlane doesn’t support the transfer of Collections.
  • Bank account information is imported as a Secure Note.
  • Passkeys need an internet connection to be transferred.
    • All other item types don’t require an internet connection for transfer between apps.

Use these steps to export and then import data from 1Password into Dashlane:

  1. In the iPhone 1Password app, select the icon for your account or collection in the top left and then select Settings.

  2. On the Settings screen, select Advanced, then select Start Export.

  3. On the Export screen, enter your account name and select Approve export.
  4. On the Export Passwords screen, the process is explained. Select Continue.

  5. On the Select a Destination screen, select Dashlane. Select Continue.

  6. On the screen with the imported item count, select Continue in "Dashlane."
  7. You’ll receive a confirmation when your import finishes. Select Done.

  8. Open your Dashlane Apple app, and your data is ready to use.

Credential Exchange instructions for Bitwarden on Apple devices

  • Your export from Bitwarden will include passwords, passkeys, credit card information, personal information and IDs, Secure Notes, passkeys, and verification codes.
  • Passkeys need an internet connection to be transferred.
    • All other item types don’t require an internet connection for transfer between apps.
  • At this time, Dashlane doesn’t support the transfer of Collections.
  • Bank account information is imported as a Secure Note.

Use these steps to export and then import data from Bitwarden to Dashlane:

  1. In the iPhone Bitwarden app, select Settings in the bottom menu.
  2. On the Settings screen, select Vault and then Export vault.

  3. On the Export vault screen, select Export vault to another app.

  4. On the Export items screen, you'll see a list of the items that will be included in the export. Select Export items.
  5. On the Export Passwords screen, the process is explained. Select Continue.

  6. On the Select a Destination screen, select Dashlane. Select Continue.

  7. On the screen with the imported item count, select Continue in "Dashlane."
  8. You’ll receive a confirmation when your import finishes. Select Done.

  9. Open your Dashlane Apple app, and your data is ready to use.

Before you start

  • Contact support for the participating password manager for issues with the transfer to verify which item types are included, or to check for known issues.
    • Currently, participating password managers include 1Password and Bitwarden
  • Passkeys need an internet connection to be transferred.
    • All other item types don’t require an internet connection for transfer between apps.
  • At this time, bank account information, custom text fields, and file attachments aren't included in transfers.
  • If Dashlane doesn't have a specific category for items, such as SSH keys, the items are saved securely as Secure Notes.
  • Folders from other participating password managers will be imported into Dashlane as Collections. If a Collection with the same name already exists and isn't shared, items will be added to the existing Collection. Otherwise, a new Collection with the same name will be created.
  • Android helps manage your vault. The import process automatically deletes most duplicate items. While this feature is most effective for passwords and Secure Notes, duplicates might still appear.

Use these steps to import data from a participating password manager to Dashlane:

  1. In the Dashlane Android app, select Vault in the side menu.
  2. Select Logins in the top bar and then select Add new.
  3. On the Add a login screen, select Import multiple items.

  4. On the Where are you importing data from? screen, select From another password manager to start the process.

  5. On the Import from another password manager screen, the process is explained. Select Start import.

  6. If you have a supported password manager to import from, select that password manager and log in. Only participating password managers will be listed. If none exist, we'll direct you to use a CSV file to import.

    The source of the data determines whether you need extra steps, such as an authentication step or confirmation that Dashlane received the imported data.

  7. On the Import to Dashlane screen, select the items that you want to import, and then select Import.
  8. You’ll receive a confirmation when your import finishes. Select Done.

  9. Open your Dashlane Android app, and your data is ready to use.
