You have two ways you can use Dashlane on your mobile device to set up 2-factor authentication. Both allow you to generate, store, and display unique 6-digit tokens within Dashlane to provide an additional layer of security to your most important accounts.
- Dashlane Authenticator, available for iOS and Android, allows you to set up and store 2FA tokens with the rest of your encrypted data. The app will sync with Dashlane Password Manager so your 2FA tokens are in both places.
- Within Dashlane Password Manager, an Authenticator tool section provides a singular list of all of your 2FA tokens set up with the rest of your encrypted data.
Dashlane handles your 2FA tokens in these ways:
- The 6-digit temporary security codes are backed up on our servers along with the rest of the encrypted data, and you can access them from any device on which you use Dashlane.
- The 6-digit temporary security codes are shared along with the password when you share a login with others using our Sharing feature.
Note that you can't use Dashlane Password Manager as the authenticator app to log in to your Dashlane account. This is similar to locking the keys to your car inside the car.
However, the new Dashlane Authenticator app allows you to manage 2FA for your vault items but also for your Dashlane account, combining security and convenience.

What is 2-factor authentication?
When you use 2-factor authentication (2FA), you strengthen your login security. You confirm you are who you say you are before you can get into your account. Your password is 1-factor authentication. You’re asked to provide a second piece of information beyond your username and password. The second piece of information is usually a temporary code delivered by a device that you have with you, such as your phone.
2FA is an essential component of your cybersecurity arsenal. 2FA is extremely effective and is already used and supported by a number of different companies and accounts.

You can now see and copy the security tokens from your logins in Dashlane on all platforms, even if you uninstall Dashlane on one of your devices. If you have a Premium account.
If you export your data in a DASH file, the 2FA tokens are restored upon importing the file.
Remember that as a security measure, the token regularly renews. When the countdown timer is low, you might need to wait a few seconds for the timer to reset with a new token.
