Complete these steps to get started with Dashlane:
- Save your logins to Dashlane
- Automatically log in and autofill forms on the web
- Instantly sync logins to all devices
- Manage and monitor your Password Health
Step 1: Save your logins to Dashlane
When you first set up your Dashlane account, you don't need to add all your logins right away. We have a few quick ways to get started. You can add your most-used logins with one—or all—of the methods described in this article.
Method 1: Save logins as you browse the web
The process works a bit differently on mobile devices. Visit these articles to learn more:
Add logins on Android
Add logins on iOS (Apple)
- Make sure you've installed the Dashlane browser extension and logged in to Dashlane.
- To open the extension, select the Dashlane D in your browser’s toolbar and enter your Master Password if prompted
- In Chrome, Firefox, or Edge, the D icon is dark green
- In the Safari browser, the D icon is dark gray
If you're not sure if you have the extension or if the extension isn't working correctly, visit this article:
- Browse the web and log in to sites as you usually do. After you have the extension set up, Dashlane helps you save your logins. Any time you log in to a site that you haven't saved in Dashlane yet, you're asked if you want to have Dashlane save that login for future use.
Important: If you use Safari as your browser, Dashlane can autofill existing logins only. If you create a new login or password on a website, make sure you make the change in your vault as Dashlane won't capture the update.
- Select Save when Dashlane asks if you want to store your login. Then you can use Dashlane to log in automatically next time.
Note: If you log in to an account you've already saved in Dashlane with a different login than what Dashlane has saved, you're asked if you want to replace the login. Then you can be sure you always have the correct logins in Dashlane—especially when you reset them.
Method 2: Import saved logins from your browser or another password manager
In the web app
- In the My account menu, select Settings and then Import Data.
- In the pop-up, choose how to upload your file:
- Drag a DASH or CSV file to upload the file
- Select browse your computer to find and select the file
- Select Upload.
Import your data into Dashlane
You can import logins at any point during your Premium Trial. You can save as many logins as you want.
Method 3: Add logins manually
Follow the steps for the app you use:
- In the web app, open the Logins section and select + Add new.
- On iOS, select Logins and select the plus sign (+).
- On Android, select Logins in the bar at the top of your logins and select + Add Logins.
Provide at least the website, login, enter or generate a password, and save the entry.

Step 2: Automatically log in and autofill forms on the web
If you use Safari as your browser: Dashlane now uses macOS native autofill for the web app in Safari. For a better autofill experience, you must set up the alternative autofill solution. This solution lets Dashlane autofill your usernames and passwords but not other fields like your address, phone number, or payment information. To autofill all types of data, you must use Dashlane in another supported browser.

First, make sure your Dashlane browser extension is installed and on for this to work.

Log in to sites with one click
Now that you've added your logins to Dashlane, you can log in to all your web accounts with one click.
- When you visit a website, look for the dark green Dashlane D in the login fields. If the D icon is gray, you’re logged out, or you haven't saved that login yet. If you're logged in, and the D icon is still gray, select the D icon. Then you can either add a login to your vault or autofill something else.
- When you click in a field, Dashlane displays a list. Choose the login you want to use.
- After you've selected the login you want, Dashlane autofills the information linked to the login. For example, click in the Username or Email field, select your username or email address, and let Dashlane do the rest.

Tired of filling in registration forms for every website you sign up for? Dashlane can do the work for you.
- Click in a field and choose a stored profile you want to use to populate the form.
- Dashlane detects and autofills the fields in the form with your data. If nothing appears, you may be logged out, or you might need to add data to the Personal Info section of your Dashlane app.
Autofill fields using the right-click menu
If you don't see the Dashlane D or you want to autofill different information, you can right-click in a form field to open the menu and select Dashlane. From the custom autofill menu, you can select the data you need from your vault or create a new password.
If you select Dashlane from the right-click menu while logged out, you're prompted to log in.
Note: If you use Safari as your browser, the custom Autofill menu won't appear.

View, copy, and paste payment methods and Secure Notes from your browser extension
If you want to view your payment methods without opening the web app, you can open your Dashlane extension and navigate to the payment method you need to view. Then you can select the Copy card number icon to copy the information.
For your Secure Notes, select the note to open it and right-click on the text you want to copy.
Note: You need to input your Master Password, which keeps the payments unlocked for five minutes. With Secure Notes, you have the option to require your Master Password for each individual note, which you can turn on or off in the web app.
Step 3: Instantly sync logins to all devices
When you connect Dashlane to all of your devices, you can add, access, and manage logins from anywhere and on any device. Get Dashlane on your devices with these links:

Sync is only available for Premium, Starter, Team, and Business plans, including trial plans.
Tip: Worried you might forget your Master Password? Download and log in to the Dashlane mobile app. Then you'll have access to Master Password reset so you can regain access to your account with biometrics, like your fingerprint or face.

Step 4: Manage and monitor your Password Health
Security and breach alerts
Breaches are unfortunately common, and we want you to be the first to know if your account might be compromised.
Dashlane sends you an alert if a hack is linked to an account you have stored in Dashlane. You're asked to change that password and any other accounts that use a similar password.
Update weak or reused logins
Update any weak or reused logins, and let Dashlane do the hard work of remembering complex, unique logins for all of your accounts. We have three tools you can use:
- Password Generator: Automatically offers to generate new, unique passwords that you never have to learn. You can also generate passwords for existing accounts.
Note: If you use Safari as your browser, you won't have the option to generate passwords when in a field. You can open the web app or extension to access the Password Generator to create, copy, and save the new password to your vault.
- Password Health: See your overall Password Health score and a detailed breakdown of your compromised, reused, and weak passwords.
