Over the last several years, we’ve been transforming Dashlane to deliver even greater value to the customers and organizations who entrust us to help protect their digital lives.
As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our offerings and focus resources on providing the highest level of service, support, and security, we’ve revised Dashlane Free, our free offering.
First, new and existing Dashlane Free users can save up to 25 logins in their vaults. If you have a Free account, you can't add more than 25 logins unless you upgrade to one of our paid plans. If you don’t remove logins so that you have 25 or fewer, you won’t be able to use Dashlane features like Autofill, unlimited secure sharing, the Password Generator, and more.
If you have an existing Free account with more than 25 logins when we enforced the limit and aren’t ready to upgrade to a paid plan, your data is safe. However, on June 6, 2024, your account will be changed to read-only mode. All your existing logins remain in your vault, and you’re able to view them, but you can’t edit, share, copy, or autofill them. To use Dashlane features like Autofill and unlimited secure sharing, you’ll need to remove logins until you have 25 or fewer.
For unlimited logins across all your devices, you can seamlessly upgrade to our paid plans, Dashlane Premium and Dashlane Friends & Family. These plans offer unlimited secure sharing, real-time phishing alerts, and Dark Web Monitoring.

What steps can I take to protect my data?
If you have a Free account, you won't have access to email or live chat support, and our Customer Support team can't help if you can't log in to your account. You can take two steps to protect your account so that you won't lose access:
-
Set up an account recovery method so that you don't lose access to your account if you forget your Master Password or get locked out of your passwordless account.
Set up Dashlane’s account recovery key
Reset your Master Password using biometric recovery on Android or iOS
Reset your Master Password on the Dashlane macOS app
Passwordless login for Dashlane - If you've set up 2-factor authentication (2FA) in Dashlane, confirm you’ve securely saved your 2FA recovery codes. When you first turn on 2FA in Dashlane, we ask you to save the recovery codes. These codes are helpful if you lose the phone you use with 2FA.
If you no longer have your 2FA recovery codes, you can turn off 2FA, turn it on again, and securely save the codes when prompted.

Make sure to save your recovery codes on a device other than the one you use as an authenticator. That way, if you lose your device, you'll still have access to your account.

What is read-only mode?
Dashlane Free users with accounts in read-only mode can log in, see their logins, passkeys, and other items, export their data, and upgrade to a Premium or Friends & Family Plan.
These features and options aren’t available in read-only mode:
- Autofill your logins, emails, and IDs
- Copy/paste credentials, including logins, emails, payment information, and IDs
- Add/edit credentials and other items—emails, payment information, and IDs
- Unlimited secure sharing
- Password Health score actions like changing and excluding passwords
- Password Generator
Free users need to remove logins to have 25 or fewer or upgrade to a Premium or Friends & Family plan to regain full access to their account.
What changes do existing Dashlane Free users see in their vaults?
If you have an existing Dashlane Free account with more than 25 logins when we enforced the limit, none of your vault items are affected. However, your account will be changed to read-only mode, which means you can view your data, but you can’t edit, share, copy, or autofill any items. If you try to add new logins after reaching the 25-login limit, you won’t be able to. You’ll also be alerted that you’ve reached the limit across multiple areas, including the vault.
I have more than 25 logins in my vault. Will any of my logins be deleted?
If you were an existing Dashlane Free user with more than 25 logins when we enforced the limit, you can still access all of your logins in read-only mode. All of your data remains safe. However, you can’t add, edit, copy, share, or autofill any logins unless you upgrade or remove logins so that you have 25 or fewer. If you have fewer than 25 logins, Dashlane Free still includes our unlimited secure sharing, Autofill, and more.
If I have a free Premium trial with more than 25 logins, what happens when my trial ends?
With your free Premium trial, you can save as many logins and other items as you want and have access to all Dashlane features.
When your free Premium trial ends, you have two options:
- Upgrade to a paid plan with unlimited logins
- Downgrade to Dashlane Free with the 25-login limit
If you added more than 25 logins to your vault during your trial, all your logins will remain securely in your vault in read-only mode. However, you can’t edit, share, copy, or autofill any of your logins, and you won’t have access to features like unlimited secure sharing, Autofill, and the Password Generator.
How do I know how many logins I already have in my Free account?
In the extension, select Logins. In the Item name heading row, you can see how many logins you have. Passkeys aren’t included in that count. You can continue to add as many passkeys as you want.
You can check your Password Health in the web app, macOS app, and on the iPhone or iPad to see how many logins you already have.
You’ll also receive messages in the product:
- If you have 20-24 logins, you’ll see a message stating how many logins you may still add.
- If you have 25 or more logins, you’ll see a message stating that you’ve reached your limit.
Can I continue to edit my logins?
If you have fewer than 25 logins, you can continue to edit all of your existing logins in your vault. If you have more than 25, you can’t edit your logins. You need to delete logins until you have fewer than 25 so that you can use the available Dashlane features.
If you delete logins when you have more than 25, you can’t add more logins if you're still over 25 or re-add the logins you deleted.
I have an account with a paid plan. Why did I receive an email about the Dashlane Free changes?
Rest assured that if you have a paid plan associated with your account, these changes don't affect you.
You likely received this email because you have a different Dashlane account with Dashlane Free, where the contact email address is the same as your paid account. If you want, you can go ahead and delete the Free account.

More about your login and contact email addresses
Your login email address is the address you use to create your Dashlane account and log in to your Dashlane account. After you've created your account, you can't change your login email address because the address is your Dashlane username. You'll always use the same email address to log in to your Dashlane account.
You also have a contact email address. Dashlane automatically uses your login email address as your contact email address, but you can provide a different contact email address.
I’m a Premium for Life customer. How does the 25-login limit and support change affect me?
You can continue to use your Premium plan with no changes.

Does the 25-login limit affect logins that were shared with me?
The 25-login limit doesn’t apply to shared logins.
What happens to other items in my vault if I have a Free account?
Your other data remains in your vault. If you have 25 or fewer logins, you can continue to add as many Secure Notes, payment types, IDs, and passkeys as you need. If you have more than 25 logins, you can’t add, edit, copy, or share any logins, Secure Notes, payment types, and IDs.
How can I export my data?
You can export all your Dashlane data to a CSV file from all Dashlane apps.
CSV files aren't encrypted, and others can read them. Delete the CSV file from your device after you're done using it to keep your data secure.
Why can't I import my logins with a CSV file with Dashlane Free?
With Dashlane Free, you can’t import CSV files or use Direct Import for LastPass. You can import secure DASH files without any limitation on the number of logins.
If you have a free Premium trial account, you can import your logins with a CSV or DASH file without any limitation on the number of logins.
