IMPORTANT: This information applies to Dashlane's desktop apps, which are no longer available.
With Dashlane, you no longer have to manage multiple usernames and passwords. You'll save time as we effortlessly sign you up and sign you in to your favorite websites.
This is a quick guide to get you quickly up and running with Dashlane.
Please note that members of a Dashlane Business plan with SSO enabled will not be able to use the desktop applications for Windows and macOS as they are not compatible with the SSO integration. For more information, you can refer to the following articles:
When you open Dashlane on your computer, you will see this window.
Log in if you already have an account, and consult this page.
If you're new to Dashlane, this page is for you. Click on Create an account and read on.
Create your Dashlane account
The first time you launch Dashlane, you will need to set up your account.
Once you've clicked on Create an account, the first thing you will need to do is decide what email address to use for your account, and create your Master Password. Your Master Password is the key to all of your passwords, so pick something strong but also something you can remember. For more information, see here.
Click the Next button at the bottom right to get started.
Import your passwords
Your passwords will be automatically imported from your browsers, but you can manually import them if you need to.
- Open the Dashlane application from the Windows menu (or from the Dashlane shortcut on your Desktop)
- Select File > Import passwords from the menu bar
On Mac OS X:
- Open the Dashlane application which is located in your Applications folder (or in your Dock, Launchpad or using Spotlight)
- Select File > Import from the menu bar
Then select the browsers you want to import your credentials from. You can also import from other password managers from this menu.
Now that you have your data in your Dashlane account, let's get you set up to start browsing!
Enable Dashlane to work with your browser
Dashlane will install a browser extension in your Chrome, Firefox, or Safari browsers. You can choose in which browsers specifically after logging in to your account in the app.
If you cannot see Dashlane in your browser, you may need to install or reinstall the browser extension using the Extensions menu (Windows) or Dashlane > Install browser extensions… menu (Mac OS X) in the Dashlane application. From here, you will be directed to the extension page, where you can download and install the extension. Once you have installed the extension, you need to sign in to your extension using your master password. For more information refer to this article
If you've just signed up for Dashlane, you'll be prompted to enter your information to permit the Dashlane extension to automatically fill in forms while you browse the web. Give it a try, and see how painless filling out forms on the internet can become.
