What is a login email address?
Your login email address is the address you used to create your Dashlane account and what you use to log in to your Dashlane account.
Can I change my login email address?
After you've created your account, you can't change the login email address. If you want to log in to Dashlane using a different email address, you need to create a new account. Then, move your existing data and subscription to that account.
Note: Your login email address is essentially your username and doesn't have to match the email address where you receive mail—known as your "contact email address."
Move your data to a new account
What is a contact email address?
Dashlane automatically uses your login email address as your contact email address, but you can provide a different contact email address.
You must always have access to the inbox for your contact email address. Dashlane sends verification codes and tokens to that address to verify your identity when you change your Master Password or authenticate new devices. You can't verify your identity if you can't access these codes and tokens.
Can I change my contact email address?
Yes, you can. When you change your contact email address, you continue to log in to Dashlane using your original login email address, but Dashlane will send all emails to the contact email address. This process ensures you can access your Dashlane account even if you can no longer access the inbox for your login email address.
Note: If you're a Dashlane Business plan member and use SSO to log in, you can't change your contact email address.
Change your contact email address
- In the web app, in the My account menu, select Settings and then Account summary.
- In the Account verification section, select Change in the Contact email section.
- Enter your new contact email address and select Confirm change.
- If prompted, enter your Master Password and select Confirm change.
Move your data to a new account with a different login email address
If you want to log in to Dashlane with a different email address, the only option is to create a new account. Then, you need to move your data and subscription to that new account.
Note: You can't transfer Family plans to a new account.
Moving to a new account requires you to complete four steps:
Step 1: Export a secure archive of your data
Export your data to a DASH file
Step 2: Create your new account
- Log out of your account.
- Create a new account using the other email address. You can reuse your existing Master Password or create a new Master Password.
Step 3: Import your archived data into the new account
Import your data from a DASH file
Step 4: Transfer your subscription to the new account
If you're subscribed to a paid plan like Essentials or Premium, contact Customer Support from the email address of your old account to let us know you created a new account. We'll move your subscription benefits to the new account.
If you no longer have access to the email address of your old account, be prepared to answer a few security questions. We need to verify that you own the subscription before moving it to another account.
Note: We can't transfer the Premium Family plan to another Dashlane account. You can find more information in the FAQ article.
