Update Dashlane
Why are you removing Password Changer?
We want to focus our efforts on providing the best customer experience. After thoroughly evaluating the beta period, the experimental feature Password Changer is no longer available.
While Password Changer is a good feature, it's only offered on the most popular websites due to its complexity and constant changes on websites, which have their own "Change password" flow that is changed frequently.
Our Password Generator and Password Health features allow customers to follow good password management practices, keeping their passwords as strong as possible, without having to change their passwords that often, especially on major companies' websites that usually have good security.
Why didn’t you expand Password Changer coverage to more sites so customers could benefit from it?
For every website to be compatible with Password Changer, we need to create a unique script that automatically changes your password on that specific website. We call that script a “recipe.” Because all websites are built differently, so are our recipes.
To increase the Password Changer coverage to work on all sites, we would need to build unique recipes for all sites. The feature would then require a great amount of support: building millions of unique recipes and maintaining them, as when websites change their “Change password” flow, the change breaks our recipe.
Ultimately, for the feature to meet our quality standards, we decided to focus on only the most popular websites during the beta period. So, for this reason, we came to the conclusion this solution wasn't sustainable. Password Changer wasn't used often, and customers have preferred using Password Generator.
Will any of my passwords changed with Password Changer be impacted?
All your data is safely stored on our servers (heavily encrypted), including the passwords changed with Password Changer. You can find those passwords in the app's password history.
Do you have plans to add it back?
At the moment, we don't, although if we can find an effective way to build this feature, we’ll reassess our decision.
What alternatives do you suggest to Password Changer?
Our Password Generator has always been the easiest way to create strong passwords, avoiding the need to change your passwords often, especially on major companies’ websites that usually have good security.
We also make it easier for customers to use strong passwords by integrating the Password Generator into their workflows: Dashlane suggests passwords directly in your browser, so you don't have to navigate to the extension to generate and copy a password.
In addition, the feature adjusts its guidelines to fit the password requirements of different sites.
On mobile, you can create new accounts without leaving the site you’re visiting: Dashlane generates strong passwords, stores them in your vault, and automatically autofills your login information all at once.
Your generated passwords are stored in a secure digital vault, which you can access from any operating system device. Even if the password wasn't saved to a login, Dashlane keeps a log of the password.
But we want to assure you that we’ll keep our focus on experience, introducing new and improving existing features that are needed and relevant to all our customers. The introduction of our Dashlane Authenticator app, having more of your data directly on our extension pop-up, and several Autofill improvements are good examples.
