How to use Password Changer

Password Changer is the latest feature for Dashlane 3 on Windows, Mac OS X and iOS (Android will be coming soon). Note that Password Changer is neither available on Windows XP nor on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6).

How to use Password Changer?

Passwords Changer is only available on Windows, Mac OS X and iOS for now. With this feature, you can either change a single password directly from your Passwords section or change multiple passwords at once using the Password Changer window.

Please note that this article is only focusing on the desktop version of Password Changer. For the iOS version, please refer to that article

Changing a single password using Password Changer

On Windows or Mac OS X

Here is how to auto-change a password:

  1. Open the Dashlane application.
  2. Select the Passwords section in the left-hand side menu.
  3. Hover over the credential you want to auto-change to see the available actions.

If you see the Password changer icon , it means that you can auto-change the password for this site. In this case, click the icon and confirm.

If you don't see this icon for this site, it means that Dashlane cannot auto-change the password for this site. You will have to change your password by visiting this site in your browser and generating a new password there, on the password change page of that site.

Changing multiple passwords using Password Changer

On Windows or Mac OS X

To open the Password Changer window:

  1. Open the Dashlane application.
  2. Select the Passwords section in the left-hand side menu.
  3. Click the Password Changer button in the menu bar.

Alternatively, you can:

  1. Open the Dashlane application.
  2. Select the Tools menu.
  3. Click “Password Changer…” in this menu.

In this Password Changer window, you can either click on Change now to change the password for a single site...

...or check the boxes at the right of each row to select and auto-change multiple passwords at the same time.

You can select as many sites at the same time as you like here. After checking the boxes, click the green button Change x password(s) at the top of the window to auto-change your passwords for these sites.

If some of your sites are not in this list, it means that Dashlane cannot auto-change the password for this site yet. You will have to change your password for now by visiting this site in your browser and generating a new password there, on the password change page of that site.

Password Changer doesn't work for a site

How can I check if a site is supported?

Password Changer works for now on a limited number of sites. A password can only be auto-changed if you see the icon when you hover over this site in Dashlane. If a site is not yet supported by Password Changer, you need to change it by visiting this site in your browser and generating a new password there. You can also click here to view the full list of currently supported websites!

Why aren't all sites supported?

There is actually little uniformity across Web sites and all the Web sites don't offer a way to change a password automatically. For instance, a site may send you an e-mail and require to click on a link to change a password. However, our technology and architecture are designed to scale and we will rapidly and continuously add more sites.

What if it doesn't work on a specific site?

If you get an error when changing a password for a site which is normally supported by Password Changer, this may be that our auto-fill feature didn't work with the site or page, or that Dashlane could not sign in using your log-in and password.

You can have a look at this article to learn how to check and retrieve your passwords after using Password Changer or contact us here and let us know on which site it happens exactly (please include the Website address), and which operating system you are running, so we can have it fixed.

Please do not contact us about sites that are not supported yet, as we are already working on this.
