Most websites have a login and a password field on the same page. However, some websites put the login and password on two different pages or have more than two login fields.
You can log in to these sites using Dashlane's auto-login feature.
Log in to a site with a two-page login
For security reasons, some websites use logins spread out over two steps or two separate pages. You often see this used on banking or other sites that need more security. These sites usually ask for your login name or username on the first page and your password on the second page.
After you've added your login to Dashlane, remember that the dark green Dashlane D in the login field means that Dashlane is ready to log you in.
Select the login field and a menu appears. If you have more than one login for a website, select the one that you want to log in with.
On the next page, Dashlane autofills the password corresponding to your selected login.
Log in to a website with extra login fields
Some websites require an extra login field when signing in. This field might be an ID number, a PIN code, or a secret phrase used for more security. You can use Dashlane to automatically log you into these sites.
Two ways to log in:
- Log in to the site and have Dashlane automatically save your login.
- Manually create the login in Dashlane.
Method 1: Automatically save logins with multiple fields
The first step is to log in to your website as you normally do. If you see gray Dashlane D icons in any of the login fields, Dashlane recognizes these fields but doesn't have the information to autofill. While you can manually enter the details, you can also select the gray D icon and choose to autofill with something else that's already in your vault.
After you complete the login fields and select Log In, you're asked to save the login in Dashlane. Select Save if you want Dashlane to remember this login the next time you visit this site.
Your login details appear in your vault. Next time you visit this site, the dark green Dashlane D appears in all the fields because Dashlane can autofill the information.
Method 2: Manually add login with multiple fields
Another way to add a login with multiple fields is to create the login directly in Dashlane in the Logins section and select Add new.
Complete the fields as you normally would. The Alternate username field won't be available at first, so you can first add your username or email and the password and then select Save. Then use the search bar or browse your password list to retrieve the newly created password. Now that you've entered the primary login, you'll have access to the Alternate username field, where you can put the necessary ID number, PIN code, or secret phrase.
Select Save again.
Be sure to save this same login information on the website.
Need more help?
Sometimes websites have a username and password on the first page and a PIN on the second page, which can be hard for Dashlane to analyze. Dashlane might identify the PIN field on the second page as a primary login field instead of a secondary one.
In this case, you can choose Autofill something else to customize how Dashlane interprets that field. Using the web app, you can specify that the field is an alternate username, and Dashlane will remember the information the next time you log in.
