2-factor authentication (2FA)
If I enable 2FA, will Dashlane still send me tokens by email to authorize new devices?
No. 2FA overrides our standard authentication system, which works by email. Now you'll stop receiving tokens by email. Using this advanced authentication system, you use the account token named Dashlane in your 2FA app on your phone.
Can I delete the Dashlane entry created in my 2FA app?
When you enable 2FA, it creates a special link between your Dashlane account and your mobile device, thanks to the 2FA app. Always keep the 2FA app on your phone or tablet. Don't delete the entry that Dashlane created in the app. You need this entry to get new tokens when asked, and you can't restore the entry if you get a new phone or move to a different device. If you plan to change your mobile device or restore it to factory settings, turn off 2FA from your Dashlane account first.
Do I need internet access to authenticate my Dashlane account using 2FA?
You need internet access to open your Dashlane account when 2FA is enabled and each time, you're required to authenticate with this second factor—a token from the 2FA app. This is for security reasons. If you already authorized your device and didn't choose to authenticate with 2FA each time you sign in to Dashlane, you can access your account offline. You can generate the tokens without having internet access on your mobile device itself, which is useful when traveling.
Can I freely switch between 2FA security levels?
For security reasons, this isn't something that we do for now. If you want to switch between 2FA security levels, you need to disable 2FA for your account and re-enable it again.
Can I manage 2FA in the web app?
Yes. However, 2FA isn't available in the Safari app. If you use Safari, consider using a supported browser like Chrome for this purpose.
SSO and 2FA
If you have SSO enabled and want to use 2FA, contact your IT admin for assistance, as this must be handled through your organization's identity provider.
What if the token is showing as incorrect when I copy and paste the token from the Authenticator app?
When the countdown timer is low, you might need to wait a few seconds for the timer to reset with a new token. Remember that the token renews every 30 seconds. If you access the website on a different device, check that the time settings on the device are correct and match the time on the device with the Authenticator app. The time on both devices needs to be the same to work properly.
What are 2FA recovery codes?
When you enable 2FA for your Dashlane account, you're provided with a set of unique recovery codes. Make sure to save these recovery codes in a TXT file for later use. If you lose access to your authenticator app, you can use these recovery codes to bypass 2FA and access your account temporarily.
Universal 2nd Factor (U2F)
Is U2F available in the web app?
We have no plans to continue supporting the U2F standard in the web app and the usage of security keys for 2FA. However, we support YubiKeys as an alternative to entering your Master Password—similar to using Face ID on an iOS device—when logging in to the Dashlane extension on browsers compatible with the feature.
