Data residency lets your organization choose where Dashlane stores important customer data at rest: in the EU or the U.S. This setting is available to professional teams and is configured by Dashlane during sales-assisted team creation, based on your choice.
By default, Dashlane stores your organization's important data at rest in the EU. If that works for you, there's nothing to do. If your organization needs to keep this data in the U.S. instead, contact Dashlane's sales team before your team is created.

Is my organization eligible?
U.S. data residency only applies if both of these are true:
- You don't have a Dashlane team yet. Dashlane can only set your data residency region when we create your team. There's no way to add it to a team that already exists.
- Dashlane is creating your team for you through sales. Most Dashlane customers sign up and set up their own team directly through the Dashlane website. U.S. data residency, however, requires a Dashlane sales representative to set up your team on your behalf. If you're setting up your own team through self-serve sign-up, this option isn't available to you.

What is U.S. data residency?
U.S. data residency means Dashlane stores your organization’s important data at rest in our physical U.S. East AWS region. This includes:
- Encrypted vault data: the passwords and other items your organization stores in Dashlane.
- Backups of encrypted vault data: copies of vault data stored for recovery purposes.
- Encrypted shared items: items shared between members of your organization.
- Encrypted audit logs: records of account and security activity.
Set up U.S. data residency
- Contact Dashlane's sales team before your team is created and request U.S. East as your data residency region.
- Confirm your choice with your sales representative.
- Dashlane sets the region in our back office during the team creation process.
- In the Admin Console, select Policies and in the Sharing section, and leave the "Allow sharing outside the company" policy off to keep shared items U.S. data resident.
If a U.S. data resident shares vault items with someone who isn't a U.S. data resident, that shared data is no longer U.S. data resident. Because sharing across regions affects residency status, we recommend restricting sharing to members within your organization's chosen region whenever data residency matters to your compliance requirements.
Sharing policies for professional plans
Note: Dashlane can't change your region after your team is created. There's no migration path between regions. If your organization needs data residency in a different region after creation, Dashlane must destroy your existing team entirely and create a new one from scratch. This means the loss of all existing data, logins, and settings, so choose your region carefully before your team is created.
