What is the Dashlane Authenticator app?
Our Dashlane Authenticator mobile app provides a simple way to turn on multifactor authentication (MFA) for your logins.
You can use Dashlane Authenticator to add an extra layer of security for any logins that are compatible with 2-factor authentication (2FA). The Authenticator app is the perfect addition to the Dashlane Password Manager app. You can increase the security of your logins with 2FA tokens, and you get the convenient advantages of using both Dashlane apps.

How do I pair Dashlane Password Manager with Dashlane Authenticator?
When you download the Dashlane Authenticator app, the app pairs automatically with your Dashlane Password Manager mobile app, as long as you've turned on biometric authentication on your mobile device. You'll use your fingerprint scan or facial recognition to log in to both apps.
What makes Dashlane Authenticator different?
You can use Dashlane Authenticator like any other authentication app to increase the security of your account by retrieving 2FA tokens. You have added benefits if you use the Dashlane Password Manager app as well. If you aren't currently using Dashlane Password Manager, you can start a free trial with no commitment.

When you use Dashlane Password Manager and set up a new device, such as a login to a new web browser, you normally receive a 6-digit token in your email that you're required to enter. With Dashlane Authenticator, you receive a push authentication message to verify the login attempt. You no longer have to enter a token. This workflow is only for accounts that don't have 2FA enabled. |

Security
Why do I need multifactor authentication (MFA)? Isn't using Dashlane's generated passwords enough security?
There's no way to be 100% guaranteed safe online, but you can implement things like using Dashlane to generate and store passwords to decrease your odds exponentially. Even with the military-grade 256-bit AES encryption that we use, unauthorized users can still potentially gain entry to your Dashlane account. A hacker can gain access if you have a compromised Master Password—and they also have access to your emails—or if they have one of your authorized devices. If you turn on MFA, you block the chances of your passwords being compromised by 99.999%.
Without MFA enabled, your account is protected by your Master Password and access to your email account. This protection is technically 2-factor authentication, but turning on multifactor authentication provides far more security, especially when your authenticator app uses biometrics.
With MFA enabled, a hacker who wants to gain access to your passwords stored in your Dashlane Password Manager needs to perform all four of these steps:
- Gain access to your Master Password.
- Gain access to your phone, which is usually password-protected.
- Gain access to your Dashlane Authenticator app, which is protected by your biometric login.
- Enter the code from the Authenticator app within the 30-second window.
In today's ever-changing cybercriminal world, you can take a few extra steps to make it almost impossible for someone to gain access to your online logins.
Can I safely use both Dashlane Password Manager and Dashlane Authenticator?
Yes. Dashlane has a unique security set-up that protects your data from most risks. Our "zero-knowledge" system means that only you have access to your data. Not even Dashlane can see what you store in our app—including your passwords, payment info, and 2FA tokens.

What version do I need to run Dashlane Authenticator on my phone?
- Android: Your device needs to be running Android 8 or later, have a camera, and have access to the Google PlayStore
- iOS: Your device needs to be running iOS 14 or later
What if I'm already using another authenticator app for 2FA with Dashlane?
For security reasons, if your Dashlane account has 2FA turned on through another authenticator app, you need to turn off 2FA and turn it back on in the Dashlane Authenticator app.

Can I use the Dashlane Authenticator on more than one device?
You can use the Authenticator to protect individual logins on as many devices as you want. The Authenticator app and the main Dashlane app sync automatically across devices, so you see the same tokens on all your devices.
However, to protect your Dashlane account with 2FA, you can only use the Authenticator on one device. Otherwise, you may have problems finding the tokens you use to log in to your Dashlane account.
You can switch the authenticator device you use to protect your Dashlane account anytime you want. You need to turn off 2FA for Dashlane on the device you're currently using and turn 2FA back on with the new device.
What if I delete the Authenticator app by mistake or lose my phone? What happens to my 2FA logins?
Don't worry—your account information is safe. The 6-digit temporary security tokens are backed up on our servers along with the rest of the encrypted data. You can access the tokens from any device that you use Dashlane on. If you have a new phone and download both the Password Manager and Authenticator, the two applications will pair together. Your 2FA tokens automatically sync to your newly downloaded Dashlane Authenticator app.
What if I want to share a login that has 2FA enabled?
Dashlane's Sharing feature automatically includes the login along with a 2FA 6-digit token for that specific login.
What if the token is showing as incorrect when I copy and paste the token from the Authenticator app?
When the countdown timer is low, you might need to wait a few seconds for the timer to reset with a new token. Remember that the token renews every 30 seconds. If you access the website on a different device, check that the time settings on the device are correct and match the time on the device with the Authenticator app. The time on both devices needs to be the same to work properly.
How do I set up 2FA for a specific website?
- Launch your Dashlane Authenticator app and unlock it with your fingerprint scan or facial recognition.
- Select Add Account.
- In the security settings of the website or account where you want to enable 2FA, turn on 2-factor authentication.
- Either scan a QR code or enter a setup code on the Authenticator app.
- Finally, on the website, enter the 6-digit token. The Authenticator generates a new token every 30 seconds.

Can I change a token's name in Dashlane Authenticator?
Yes, you can change a token's name in the Authenticator app for both iOS (Apple) and Android.

In the Authenticator app, select the 3-dot menu and then select Edit.

Select the pencil icon next to the item you want to edit.

Select the field for Item Name and enter the new name. Select Save.
The new name will appear next to the token in the Authenticator app and in the main Dashlane app. You can also select the star icon next to a token, which moves it to the top of the list on the main menu.
What if I already have 2FA enabled for logins on my Dashlane Password Manager app?
When you download the Dashlane Authenticator app for your mobile device, the app automatically pairs with your Dashlane Password Manager app on your phone. You use your biometric login for both. The Authenticator app's main page shows all of your 2FA sites in a complete and easy-to-view list. Then you can select the site you want to see the code for.
How do I uninstall the Dashlane Authenticator app?
If you have 2FA enabled for your Dashlane account through the Dashlane Authenticator app, you need to disable it before you uninstall the app.

You'll always have access to your 2FA tokens for your vault logins, which are backed up in your Dashlane Password Manager app.
Delete the app from your iOS device:
- On the main iOS home screen, find the Dashlane Authenticator app icon.
- Hold your finger down on the icon until a menu opens.
- Select Remove App.
Download Dashlane Authenticator from the iOS App Store again
Delete the app from your Android device:
- Find the Dashlane Authenticator app icon.
- Hold your finger on the icon until it becomes bigger.
- Move the icon to the Uninstall field.
You can also uninstall the app through the settings:
- Navigate to your device Settings and select Applications or Apps.
- In the menu to manage your applications, select Dashlane Authenticator. A screen appears that provides details about the app, including how much storage the app consumes, how much information is stored in your cache file, and any default launch settings.
- Select Uninstall.
