Set up the alternative autofill solution in Safari Expand Sections

Dashlane now uses macOS native autofill for the web app in Safari as it does for the iOS app. For a better autofill experience in Safari, you must set up the alternative autofill solution. This solution lets Dashlane autofill your usernames and passwords in Safari but not other fields like your address, phone number, or payment information.

To autofill all types of data, you must use Dashlane in Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Google Chrome, or other Chromium-based browsers.
Get the extension for a supported browser

Be aware that some limitations exist when using the alternative autofill solution in Safari:

• Dashlane doesn't prompt you to save or replace passwords in fields. Make sure you make the change in your vault.
• Dashlane’s Password Generator is available only in the Safari app. The Password Generator option won’t appear in fields.
• Dashlane can’t autofill payment methods, IDs, or personal info like phone numbers and addresses.
• Dashlane can't autofill 2FA tokens.

To set up the alternative solution and improve the autofill experience in Safari, follow these steps.

Tip: If you can already autofill your logins but you're being asked to enter your Master Password for each login, skip to Step 4.

Step 1: Confirm you have the latest version of the Safari app

We recommend you always use the latest version of Dashlane compatible with your device. You want to make sure you have all the latest improvements and features and the most up-to-date security updates.

Check if you need to update to the new Dashlane Safari app:

1. Open the Mac App Store
2. Select Updates to open the list of apps you need to update.
3. For Dashlane, select Update. If Dashlane isn't listed, you have the latest version.

Step 2: Turn on the extension

After you're sure you have the latest version of the Safari app, turn on the extension on your macOS device:

1. Select the Apple icon in the browser toolbar and then select System Settings or System Preferences, depending on your macOS version.
2. Search for and then select Extensions in the list.
3. Select Password AutoFill.
4. In the pop-up, select the Dashlane checkbox.
5. Select Done.

Step 3: Configure Autofill in the Safari browser

Now that you've turned on Dashlane on your device, the last step is to configure Autofill in the Safari browser:

1. In the Safari menu in the browser toolbar, select Preferences or Settings, depending on your macOS version.
2. In the pop-up, select AutoFill in the toolbar.
3. Select the Usernames and passwords checkbox.

Step 4: Configure your device and Safari app settings

To reduce how often you're asked to enter your Master Password, follow these steps to configure your device and Safari app settings.

On your device, turn off the Use Touch ID for autofilling passwords setting:

1. Select the Apple icon in the browser toolbar and then select System Preferences or System Settings, depending on your macOS version.
2. In the pop-up, open the Touch ID & Password section.
3. Turn off the Use Touch ID for autofilling passwords or Password AutoFill setting, depending on your macOS version.
4. Enter your user account password for your device.
5. Close the pop-up.

In the Safari app, turn on the Keep me logged in for 14 days setting:

1. To log in to the web app, select the Dashlane D icon in your Safari toolbar.
2. In the extension pop-up, select Open the app and enter your Master Password if prompted. If you've already logged into the extension, select the vertical 3-dot menu and then Open the application.
3. In the web app, select the gear icon above the main menu.
4. In the Settings pop-up, select Security, and then turn on the Keep me logged in for 14 days setting. Select OK.
5. Select the back arrow and then Done in the upper-right corner.

After you update your device and Safari app settings, you won’t need to enter your Master Password each time you want to autofill one of your existing logins. After 14 days, you need to turn on the Keep me logged in for 14 days setting again.

When you go to a website where you’ve saved a login, click in the username or email field and select the first option in the menu. Your username or email and your password will autofill.

If you have more than one login saved for a website, select Dashlane in the menu. Your Dashlane vault opens, and you can select the correct login.

Note: You still need to log in to the Dashlane Safari app for Autofill to work.
