Note: You can't require a Master Password to open items if you log in with single sign-on (SSO). For passwordless accounts protected by a PIN or a security key, item protection is only available on mobile for Secure Notes when you have biometrics like your face and fingerprint turned on.

Passwordless login for Dashlane
Item protection is a way to add more security to a login, Secure Note, or secret so that Dashlane asks for your Master Password, or your face, or fingerprint before it opens. After you turn item protection on for an item, you unlock that item with your Master Password, or your face, or fingerprint when you copy, view, or autofill it.
When you unlock a protected item, all your items with item protection stay unlocked for five minutes. After that, Dashlane might ask for your Master Password, or your face, or fingerprint again for each item.

Unlock an item with item protection turned on, on the web
Open the item, then enter your Master Password or use your face or fingerprint when prompted by Dashlane.
-
Select the D icon in your browser's toolbar, log in with your Master Password, and select Open the web app.
- Select Logins, Secure Notes, or Secrets in the side menu.
- Select the item you want to open.
-
When asked, such as when you want to reveal a password, enter your Master Password or use your face or fingerprint to authenticate.
Autofill a login with item protection in your browser
Dashlane asks for your Master Password before it autofills a protected item. In Google Chrome or another Chromium-based browser, you can use your face or fingerprint to unlock, such as Touch ID, Windows Hello, or a security key.
Unlock a Secure Note with item protection in the mobile app
Open the Secure Note in the Dashlane mobile app, then enter your Master Password or use your face or fingerprint to unlock the item when Dashlane asks.
Sync your data if an item doesn't update
If an item still opens without asking for your Master Password after you turn on item protection, sync your Dashlane data.
If you've just turned on item protection for a login, Secure Note, or secret, you may need to wait five minutes before Dashlane asks you to authenticate with your Master Password, your face, or fingerprint to access a protected item.
-
Select the D icon in your browser's toolbar, log in with your Master Password, and select Open the web app.
-
In the Vault menu in the top left of the page, select Settings and then Sync now.
Note: You'll always need to enter your Master Password when copying, autofilling, or viewing the details of payment methods like credit cards, whether or not they have item protection turned on. After you enter your Master Password to use a payment method, we won't ask again for the next five minutes. You can use your face or fingerprint instead of your Master Password when autofilling payment methods in Google Chrome or another Chromium browser.
