Important: If you've forgotten your Master Password and haven't turned on a recovery method, you may need to reset your account, which erases all of your data. Dashlane never stores or shares your Master Password, so we can't tell you your password if you forget it. We have no way to help you log in to your account. You can follow the steps in our troubleshooting article to check if you've truly forgotten your Master Password.
I forgot my Master Password
Dashlane offers account recovery options to all of our customers. As long as the options are turned on in advance, you don't have to worry about losing access to your account and data.
We’ll walk you through all of the options available so that you can check which option applies to your situation.
Note: If you have a passwordless Dashlane account, your only recovery option is account recovery key.
Account recovery key
Important: If you haven't generated a recovery key before getting locked out of your account, you won't be able to use this option to regain access to your account. For accounts protected by a Master Password, follow the steps in our troubleshooting article to check if you've truly forgotten your Master Password.

After you've set up Dashlane's recovery key, you can regain access to your Dashlane account without losing any of your data if you forget your Master Password or get locked out of your passwordless account. You'll provide your saved recovery key, complete an identity verification step, and recover your account. If you have a Master Password, we'll also ask you to change your password during the recovery process.
Setting up a recovery key isn't required, but the key protects you from being permanently locked out of your account. Think of your recovery key as your emergency key to your vault.
You need to store your key outside of Dashlane because the purpose of the key is to regain access to your account if you forget your Master Password or get locked out of your passwordless account. We recommend keeping your key somewhere safe with your other important documents, like your passport.
Set up and use your recovery key
To use your account recovery key, you must verify your identity with email verification codes or 2-factor authentication (2FA) tokens from your authenticator app. When using your account recovery key, you can't use 2FA recovery codes sent by text message to verify your identity. So if you don't have access to your email or authenticator app, you won't be able to use your account recovery key.
You might confuse your recovery key with your 2-factor authentication (2FA) recovery codes. Your account recovery key is a random 28-character code that you set up, save, and then enter if you forget your Master Password. 2FA recovery codes are 16 characters and a temporary solution to get into your account and turn off 2FA.
Admin-assisted recovery
Important: If you haven't turned on admin-assisted recovery and forget your Master Password, you won't be able to use this option to regain access to your account. You can follow the steps in our troubleshooting article to check if you've truly forgotten your Master Password.

If you've set up Dashlane on your Android or iOS (Apple) device to unlock your account with biometrics like your fingerprint or face, you can also turn on Biometric recovery. Then if you enter the wrong password or fail to authenticate when logging in, you can recover your account with biometrics without losing any data.
Resetting your Master Password with biometrics is also available on the Dashlane macOS app.
