When you create an account, you need to complete a few steps, including creating a Master Password or PIN for passwordless login. Sometimes, customers pay for their subscription and enter their email address without realizing more steps are required.
If you haven’t finished setting up your account and try to log in, you’ll receive the error message: “Invalid email address,” even though you added your email address. Though partially created accounts exist in our system, they aren’t fully set up without a Master Password or PIN for passwordless login. If you haven’t completed your account setup, you can finish it and create your Master Password or PIN anytime.
The “Invalid email address" error message can occur in these scenarios:
- You subscribed and are trying to login without completing the account creation
- You reset your account and haven't yet recreated your account
- You might be using an incorrect email address as the Dashlane ID
Finish your account setup
- If you’ve already installed the Dashlane extension, select the Dashlane D icon in your browser toolbar and select Create an account. You can also go to the Dashlane website, select Log in, and then Create an account.
Log in on the Dashlane website - Enter the same email address you used when you paid for your subscription.

Create a strong Master Password
or
- Depending on where you started, your vault or the Get Started page opens. Your Dashlane account is ready to use.
You can turn on one or more of the recovery options available to you, like the account recovery key, biometric recovery, and admin-assisted recovery. Then if you forget your Master Password, you can gain access again and reset your Master Password.
