Dashlane on the web and the browser extension are a highly secure way to store and use your data.

To access your data on the web, you have to "authenticate" the device and browser you're using. You need to prove that you're the one trying to get access to your Dashlane account.

To authenticate your device and browser, enter your Master Password and a temporary code that we send to the email you used to set up Dashlane. No one—not even Dashlane employees—can access your datawithout these two pieces of information.

Important: The most important thing you can do to keep your account secure is to create a strong Master Password. You want a Master Password that is long, unique, difficult to guess, and easy to remember. No one at Dashlane knows your Master Password, and we can't send you your password if you forget it.

You can also add an extra layer of security to the web version with Dashlane security tools, such as 2-factor authentication (2FA).

If you're a member of a Dashlane professional plan with SSO enabled, this section doesn't apply to you, as you don't have a Master Password. SSO means you use one login application to access Dashlane and other work accounts. Instead of a Master Password, you use your regular work password to log in to Dashlane. If you don't know whether you have SSO, ask your manager or plan admin.

When you create a new Dashlane account, you need to provide a login email address and then create your Master Password.

If you're joining a professional plan, you'll start by accepting the invite in your email instead.

Login and contact email addresses

Your login email address is the address you use to create your Dashlane account and the address you use to log in to your Dashlane account.

If you log in to your Dashlane account with a Master Password and aren’t part of a professional plan, you can change your login email address on the web. Admins of professional plans in which plan members log in with a Master Password can change the login email for any plan member.

Note: The ability to change your login email on passwordless and SSO accounts will be available in the future.

You also have a contact email address. Dashlane automatically uses your login email address as your contact email address, but you can provide a different contact email address.

Make sure you have access to the inbox for your contact email address. Based on your security settings, Dashlane sends verification codes to that address. These codes are used to check your identity when you change your Master Password, add new devices to Dashlane, or use your account recovery key.

Your Master Password

When you create a Dashlane account, you need to create a Master Password. Your Master Password is the only way to unlock your Dashlane account. Only you know your Master Password, and your password is never shared with or stored by Dashlane.

Warning! If you forget your Master Password and haven't turned on a recovery method, you can lose the data you’ve stored in Dashlane. To ensure the security and privacy of your data, we don't have a traditional "reset password" process like other apps. No one at Dashlane knows your Master Password, and we can't send you your password if you forget it. We recommend that you turn on all the account recovery options that are available to you.

Create your account

1. Select the Dashlane D in your browser’s toolbar or extensions menu, and select Create an account.
2. Enter the email address you want to use for your account.
3. Create the Master Password for your Dashlane account. Keep your Master Password a secret, and don't send your password over the internet.

Tip: If you use special symbols in your Master Password for more security, make sure you select symbols that are available on all devices that you'll need to use to access Dashlane.

Worried you might forget your Master Password?

You can turn on one or more of the account recovery options available to you, like the recovery key, biometric recovery, and admin-assisted recovery. Then if you do forget your Master Password, you can gain access again and reset your Master Password.

1. Select the Dashlane D icon in your browser’s toolbar.
2. Enter the email address you use for Dashlane and your Master Password.
3. In the extension pop-up, select Open Dashlane on the web.

For most browsers, the Dashlane D is green when you're logged in.

For most browsers, the Dashlane D is orange when you're not logged in. You need to log in first to access the web app.

For Safari, the Dashlane D is dark gray when you're logged in and light gray when you're not logged in.

Note: In recent versions of Safari, you can choose the colors of your extensions in your Apple device's appearance settings. Whatever color you choose, the D icon is dark when you're logged in to Dashlane and light when you're not.

If you previously stored your passwords and login details in a browser or a different password manager, you can import your data directly into Dashlane instead of manually entering it. Check the following article for a list of where you can import from.

You can also add passwords one by one:

1. From the Get started page, select Add your first password as you browse, and a list of some popular websites to choose from appears. Select the website you want to start with.

   

2. Select Open selected website. If you're already logged in to the website, log out. When you log in again, a pop-up appears and asks if you want to save to Dashlane.

   

3. Select Save. If Dashlane already has information saved for this site, a pop-up appears. We ask if you want to update the login with this new password or create a new login for this website.

2. Dashlane asks you to enter basic details that websites might ask you for, such as your name, date of birth, and phone number. Enter your information and select Continue.

   

3. Select Save and then Continue.

   

4. On the next screen, you can test autofill. The Dashlane D appears in each field. Select one of the fields. In the pop-up, select the data you entered, and Dashlane will autofill it. Select Done.

   

You can add Dashlane to your mobile device from the Get Started page. This step is optional, and you can complete it anytime.

1. Select Get the mobile app.
2. On the next screen, scan the QR code with your mobile device.

If you have issues, select It's not working for some tips. After you scan the code, follow the steps on your mobile device to install the Dashlane app.

Worried that you might forget your Master Password?

Log in to the Dashlane mobile app. If you turn on biometrics and Biometric recovery in the mobile app, you can reset your Master Password using your fingerprint or face.

In addition to Biometric recovery, you can set up the account recovery key to help regain access to your account if you forget your Master Password. You can also use admin-assisted recovery if you're part of a professional plan.
