The easiest way to make sure you have strong passwords for each of your online logins is to have Dashlane create them for you.
Each time you create a login online or update a password, you can choose to have Dashlane automatically generate a password for you and save the new password in Dashlane for that login.
You can also use the Password Generator to produce passwords to specific standards of length and complexity.
Generate a strong password from the password field
You can use Dashlane to create and store secure, unique passwords for every login you have. You can also update an existing password.
If you use Safari as your browser, you won't have the option to generate passwords when in a field. You can open the web app or extension to access the Password Generator to create and save the new password. You can also try our new Safari web extension that gives you early access to our key Autofill features.
Install the new extension
- Navigate to a website and select the new password field when you create or update your password.
- In the pop-up, select Use generated password to generate a new strong, randomly-generated password. In the same pop-up, select the customization icon, shown as three horizontal lines with circles, to open the full Password Generator. Then you can make changes to the generated password.
View: To view the generated password, select Show, shown as an eye icon.
Generate: To generate a new password, select the circling arrows icon next to the current password.
Customize: You can choose the length of the password and whether the password contains letters, numbers, or symbols. You can also choose not to include characters that resemble each other, such as "1" and "l."
Save: Remember to save the new password in Dashlane. In the pop-up, select Save for a newly added login or Replace for an existing login.
Edit or delete the password you just saved
Note: If Dashlane doesn't automatically update your newly generated password in your vault, log out and back into the website where you changed the password. A pop-up appears after Dashlane detects a successful login and asks if you want to Replace this information in your vault.
