Dashlane helps you make strong, unique logins and keeps track of the information for you. Dashlane can also autofill this information and speed up online purchases.
Dashlane uses an autofill engine to analyze the content and identify the different types of fields on the web pages you visit. The autofill engine enables Dashlane to offer the most relevant information for autofill and contextual help. You see the autofill engine in action when you create an online login or change a password.

About the Machine Learning Autofill Engine
Earlier versions of Dashlane's Autofill used a "semantic rule engine," which used a set of rules our engineers developed to identify fields on web pages. So, if a website didn't match those human-set rules, the engine might not recognize the fields properly. Earlier versions required heavy maintenance and impacted your computer's performance.
As we've focused more on a web-based environment, we introduced an autofill engine powered by machine learning. Instead of using a set of rules, we "fed" the engine with a large number of websites that we classified manually. The engine used those examples to learn how to recognize fields on its own. As a result, this engine is more efficient when identifying fields in different contexts.
The Machine Learning Engine supports English, French, German, and Spanish languages.
Main advantages of this autofill engine:
- Improved accuracy
- Faster adaptation: The engine powered by machine learning can better adjust to web standards changes
- Lower maintenance cost: More resources are available to build upon instead of only maintaining
- Faster and lighter: The engine has less impact on your computer's performance
Easy one-step login
Dashlane can log you into all your accounts in one step.
When you visit a website, look for the Dashlane D in the login fields. A dark green D icon means we have the information already. A gray D icon means we don't. While you can manually enter your info, you can also select the gray D icon and choose to autofill with something else that's already in your vault.
Add your login information to Dashlane
When you click in a field with a dark green D, Dashlane displays a list. You can choose the information you want to use. Dashlane autofills the fields based on the information you've saved in the app.
For example, when you're in an "Email" field and select the correct login, Dashlane logs you in automatically.
If you have several suggested items in your list, select the magnifying glass icon to filter the items and quickly choose the correct information. From the Suggested list, enter a keyword in the search field to filter the list. From the All items list, you can search all the items in your vault.
View and edit the details of each item
In the web app, you can view the details of items that appear for autofill. When you click in a field with the Dashlane D, hover over an item in the pop-up and select the right-pointing arrow to view the details. For example, some forms may have multiple lines for your address, or you might have more than one name to choose from for payment info. From the pop-up, you can select the detail you want to autofill.
Can I change the password or other details that Dashlane autofills for a login?
Yes, you can change your password for a website, and Dashlane will automatically update the login in your vault. Then your login, with the updated password, is ready to autofill on your next visit.
Also, in your account settings for a website, you can choose to edit or change your personal information, including your password. For example, when you make changes to your password, a Dashlane pop-up appears. We ask if you want to update the login with this new password or create a new login for this website.
After you make a selection, you can select Edit in the next pop-up if you need to make additional changes. You're taken to your vault in the web app where you can view all the login's details or change some of your preferences. The pop-up disappears in 5 seconds or when you leave the page.
Can people I've shared my logins with change my password?
No login saved for a website
When you visit a website where you don't have an account, Dashlane lets you know you don't have a login saved for the website yet.
Fix issues in website fields
Sometimes, you might come across a field that Dashlane can't identify correctly. As a result, Dashlane may not be able to log you in automatically or save your login details.
Autofill personal information
You can save personal information such as your name, date of birth, address, or phone number in the Dashlane app. This data is secure, like your login information. You can quickly and accurately autofill this information for deliveries, job applications, and other online forms.
If you change your address or phone number, you can update these details in the Personal Info section of the app. In the web app, click in the field you want to edit. On your mobile device, select the edit option in the upper-right corner.
Speed up online purchases
Dashlane helps you complete your purchases in seconds.
Place your cursor in the field where you need to enter your credit card number, choose which of your credit cards you want to use, and Dashlane autofills the information for you.
For security reasons, Dashlane asks you to enter your Master Password when autofilling the information. If you've entered your Master Password within the last five minutes, you won't be asked to enter it. If you've turned on Biometric unlock, you can use Touch ID, Windows Hello, or a security key instead of your Master Password to autofill the information.
Copy and paste login, payment, and bank account details from the extension
Copy and paste pop-ups for entering vault information without Autofill aren't available when using Safari due to a limitation on Safari’s side. You can use the right-click menu to autofill your username, password, payment info, or other data stored in your vault, in any field.
Autofill fields using the right-click menu
When you visit a website and Autofill doesn't work, you can copy and paste the information you need in a field from the extension. After you copy and paste the first detail from an item in your vault, a pop-up appears so that you can easily copy other relevant details. You can securely copy and paste information from the pop-up without returning to the extension.
The "copy and paste" pop-up appears for these vault items after you copy and paste the first detail from the extension:
-
Logins
Shows username or email and password, and if available, alternate username and 2FA token
-
Payment cards
Shows the card number and security code but not the expiration date
-
Bank account information
Shows relevant details you've entered for the account, like your account and routing numbers
Note: To search for and copy personal information like your driver's license number or a detail in a Secure Note, you can use the right-click menu.

Copy and paste from the pop-up

- Select the Copy icon and select the detail you want to copy, like your email or password.
- Paste the detail into the form field.

- Return to the form field and paste the information.
To enter another detail, return to the extension and copy it. The copy and paste pop-up reappears after you copy and paste from the extension on the same page.
Note: You can use the keyboard shortcut to paste the information copied from the pop-up:
Windows: Ctrl + V
macOS: Command + V
Turn off the copy and paste pop-ups
The copy and paste pop-up appears after you copy and paste the first detail, even if you've turned off Autofill for the website or a specific form field. You can also turn off the copy and paste pop-ups for all websites in the Autofill settings in the extension.

Autofill fields using the right-click menu
Depending on how a website is designed, sometimes Dashlane may not be able to detect the fields needed to log in successfully. Dashlane might even autofill incorrect information. With the Dashlane right-click menu, you can right-click in a form field and choose which information you want to autofill. Dashlane remembers the data and autofills the field the next time you visit the website.
Requirements
The Dashlane right-click menu is available for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera browsers through the Dashlane extension on version 6.2236.1 on your computer only. Check our minimum requirements article if you can't access the Dashlane right-click menu.
Use the right-click menu to autofill fields
If you don't see the Dashlane D icon or you want to autofill different information, you can right-click in a form field to open the menu and select Dashlane. From the custom Autofill menu, you can search for and select the data you need from your vault and even create a new password.
In the menu, you can select an item like Logins info and choose what you need from the list. Or, select the magnifying glass icon to search for other information in your vault.
Note: If you select Dashlane from the right-click menu while logged out, you're prompted to log in.
The Dashlane right-click menu includes the following information and suggests autofill data based on the information in your Dashlane account:
- Login info
- Payment info
- Personal info
- Address
- Passport
- ID card
- Driver’s license
- Bank details
- Don't autofill on this field: Select this option when you want to skip a field
Note: You need to right-click in a form field. If you right-click a background page or on an image, Dashlane won't appear in the menu.
