With Secure Notes, you can store private keys to software, WiFi passwords, and other important documents that need to be stored securely but accessed easily. Keep them safe, private, and accessible only to you and the people you choose to share them with.
Note: Secure Notes aren't part of a free plan. You need to upgrade to one of our paid plans to use this feature.
Create Secure Notes
Create a new Secure Note on the web app:
- Go to the Secure Notes section.
- Select Add New. The note editor opens.
Create a new Secure Note on your iOS (Apple) or Android device:
- Open the Dashlane app and select Vault and then Secure Notes.
- Select the + icon. The editor opens.
- Enter your note and save it.
Available options for your Secure Notes
Choose a category for your note so you can sort them more easily in the list.
Important: Categories you created on the now unavailable desktop apps are available in the web app, but you won't be able to create new categories, delete, or rename existing categories from the web app. We'll do our best to add this feature to the web app as soon as possible, but we can't share an estimated delivery date at this time. In the meantime, as a workaround, you can add keywords in the Notes field in the login details and then search for those keywords to locate the item.
Secure file storage
With our secure file storage, you can use the same powerful encryption and security infrastructure used to protect your passwords and Secure Notes to encrypt and store your sensitive documents in your Dashlane app.
Require Master Password for Secure Notes
You can lock a specific Secure Note so that your Master Password is required to unlock it. You won't have to enter your Master Password more than once every five minutes or right after you log in.
You can assign different colors to your notes to make them easier to identify with the Color option next to Categories when you edit a note.
Share your notes securely with other people
After you've created your Secure Note, you can safely share it with other people, regardless of whether they are Dashlane plan members. Select Share, enter one or more of your friends' email addresses, and select Send.
Note: For now, you can't share Secure Notes that have files attached or attach files to shared Secure Notes. Files attached to Secure Notes are also not included in DASH exports.
Search for your Secure Notes
Search for a note using Dashlane's search bar. If you've locked your note, remember that you need your Master Password to access this note from the search bar.
Search and copy a note through the extension in your web browser. Your notes will remain secure and any that are locked will need your Master Password for access.
