You can quickly and securely unlock Dashlane on your iPhone or iPad without entering your Master Password each time. Learn how to turn on and use TouchID or FaceID, called biometric authentication, or a passcode to unlock your Dashlane iOS app.
Options for unlocking your iOS app
Whether your device supports Touch ID or Face ID, you have three basic options for unlocking the Dashlane iOS app:
- Use Touch ID or Face ID by itself. After two unsuccessful attempts to use biometrics to unlock the app, Dashlane asks you to enter your Master Password.
- Use a passcode by itself. After three unsuccessful attempts to unlock the app with your passcode, Dashlane asks you to enter your Master Password.
- Use Touch ID or Face ID with a backup passcode. After two unsuccessful attempts to use biometrics to unlock the app, Dashlane asks you to enter your passcode. After three unsuccessful attempts with your passcode, Dashlane asks you to enter your Master Password.
You must be running Dashlane iOS app version 6.2152.0 or later to turn on Touch ID or Face ID with a backup passcode. If running an earlier release, you must turn off one option to turn on the other.
No matter your settings, your Master Password will be stored securely on your device.
If you're a Dashlane Business plan member who logs in using single sign-on (SSO), Dashlane asks you to log in to your account every 14 days using your SSO username and password instead of a Master Password.
About Biometric unlock
You can use the Biometric unlock setting to unlock your device and its apps. Instead of entering your Master Password or passcode to unlock Dashlane, Dashlane reads your TouchID or FaceID to unlock the app.
Dashlane still asks you to enter your Master Password after restarting your device and from time to time as a security measure.
If you're a Dashlane Business plan member who logs in using single sign-on (SSO), you can use TouchID, FaceID, or your passcode to log in instead of using the SSO sign-in process.
Important: In some cases, Dashlane requires you to log in by entering your Master Password instead of using your fingerprint or face. In these cases, you can't use Master Password reset to regain access to your account: you recently added a new fingerprint to your device settings, you logged out of the mobile app manually, or you turned off the ability to log in with your fingerprint or face.
Turn on Touch ID or Face ID on your iOS device
To make Touch ID or Face ID available to unlock Dashlane, you first need to turn it on in your iPhone or iPad settings. If you don't unlock your iOS device with Touch ID or Face ID, you can't use it to unlock the Dashlane app.
Face ID is available only for Apple phones that support the feature—iPhone X and later.

Set the app to lock when you're inactive
The Auto-lock timeout setting locks your app automatically after you've been inactive for the time you specify. After this amount of time passes, you need to unlock the app with Touch ID, Face ID, or your passcode. This setting is helpful if you lose your phone and want to ensure no one can access your data.
- Log in to the Dashlane iOS app.
- Select Settings and then Security.
- Select Auto-lock timeout.
- Select the amount of time after you've been inactive that the app locks.
The timeout is set to 5 minutes automatically when turned on, but you can choose between 10 seconds and 10 minutes. Selecting Never turns off this setting, but we strongly recommend keeping it turned on for greater security.
Set the app to lock when you exit
The Lock on exit setting locks your app automatically whenever you leave it, such as when going back to the home screen on iOS, switching between apps, or closing the screen. You need to authenticate to unlock it. We recommend keeping this setting turned on for greater security.
- Log in to the Dashlane iOS app.
- Select Settings and then Security.
- Select Lock on exit.
Change your passcode
You change your passcode in the Security Settings menu.
- Log in to the Dashlane iOS app.

If you no longer want to use a passcode to unlock Dashlane, turn off the Use passcode setting.

Can Touch ID, Face ID, or a passcode replace my Master Password?
No. Touch ID, Face ID, and passcodes are efficient and secure ways to lock and unlock your device, but they can't replace your Master Password entirely because it's required to decrypt your data.
When you add a new fingerprint to your device settings, log out of the mobile app manually, or turn off the ability to log in with your fingerprint or face, Dashlane asks you to enter your Master Password to decrypt your data.
If you're a member of a Dashlane Business plan who logs in using single sign-on (SSO), you can use Touch ID, Face ID, or a passcode to log in instead of using the SSO sign-in process.
