When you use Dashlane for the first time on a new computer, phone, or tablet—often referred to as "devices"—we ask you to take an extra step to confirm that you're the person logging in. We sometimes call this step "authenticating" your device or adding an "authorized device."
Your options for adding a device to Dashlane depend on the type of account you have.
Account type | Email code | 2FA token | QR code | Security challenge |

Passwordless accounts | ✓ | ✓ |
Manage the devices you've added to Dashlane
For accounts protected with a Master Password, you'll take this extra step after entering your Master Password the first time you log in on a device. For passwordless accounts, you'll need to authorize your device anytime you log out and log back in.
Set up and use a passwordless account
Warning! If you have a passwordless account, make sure you're logged in on at least one other device or have access to an account recovery key before logging out. Otherwise, you could lose access to your data.
What happens if I'm logged out of my passwordless account on all devices?
Note: If you have Dashlane Free, you can only use Dashlane on one device at a time. When you use Dashlane on a new device, we'll ask you to unlink all other devices.
Use Dashlane Free on one device at a time
Add a device with a code sent to you by email
If you're new to Dashlane or haven't turned on 2FA, we send a verification code to your contact email address whenever you log in to a new device.
- Open Dashlane on the device you want to log in to and enter your login email address.
- Open your email and look for a message from us with the code. We send the code to the address you use to log in to Dashlane unless you have a contact email address that's different from your login email address.
More about changing your contact email address - Enter the code in the app you want to log in to.
- After you enter the code, enter your Master Password and select Log in. We won't ask for a code the next time you log in on that device.
Problems logging in with an email code
If the email isn't in your inbox, check your spam folder. If you haven't received the email, try again with a new code by selecting Resend in the app where you're trying to log in. You can also get a new code by trying to log in again.
Add a device with a 2FA token
If you've turned on 2FA or have an authenticator app on a device you've already added to Dashlane, we'll ask for a 6-digit token from your authenticator app when you try to log in on a new device. Authenticator apps include Google Authenticator, Duo Mobile, and others.
- Open Dashlane on the device you want to log in to and enter your login email address.
- Open your authenticator app and look for a 6-digit token for the Dashlane account you're trying to log in with.
- Enter the token in the app you want to log in to.
- After you enter the token, enter your Master Password and select Log in. We won't ask for a token the next time you log in on this device unless you've set up 2FA for every time you log in to Dashlane.

Add a device with a QR code
You can only use this method with the Dashlane mobile app or the Dashlane macOS app—not with the Dashlane web app in your computer browser.
You can add a new device by scanning a QR code with the camera on a different mobile device where you're already logged in to Dashlane. When you add a device this way, you don't need to enter your email address or Master Password. QR codes are a quick and easy way to set up Dashlane when you get a new phone or computer.

Use a camera on one of these devices to add another device | ✓ | ✓ |
- Open Dashlane on the device you want to add and select Log in with a QR code. A QR code appears.
- Open the camera on a mobile device that you've already added. You can also open Dashlane, go to Settings, and select Add new mobile device to open a camera in the app.
- Select Scan QR code, and use the camera to scan the QR code.
- If you have 2FA turned on, enter the 2FA token from your authenticator app. You won't need to use a QR code the next time you log in on the device you added.
Add a device with the security challenge
You can only use this method with a passwordless Dashlane account.
Set up and use a passwordless account
To add a new device using the security challenge, you need to be logged in to Dashlane already on another device and have your logged-in device with you.
- Open Dashlane on the device you want to log in to.
- Enter your Dashlane login email address.
- Go to the device where you’re already logged in. If your logged-in device is the web app, select My account and then Settings. In the mobile or macOS apps, select Settings directly.
- Select Add new device.
- You’ll see a request from the device where you’re trying to log in. Select Confirm request.
Note: If you see a screen saying Log in on your new device with security challenge, select Refresh request first.
- You’ll see a list of words with one word missing. Go back to your logged-in device and find the missing word. Enter the word on the device you’re trying to log in to. Then select Confirm.
- If the device you're adding is a phone or tablet, you'll be asked to set up a PIN. The PIN you set up is specific to your device. You can also create a PIN in the web app by turning on PIN unlock in your security settings.
We recommend choosing a different PIN than the one you use to unlock Dashlane on other devices. For the mobile app, you also have the option to turn on biometrics and unlock Dashlane with your face or fingerprint.
Important: If you don't turn on PIN unlock for a passwordless account in the web app, you'll be logged out automatically after 14 days. You'll need to repeat the security challenge or use an account recovery key to log back in. If your passwordless account was created in the web app, PIN unlock was turned on automatically for your account.
