When you set up Dark Web Monitoring, Dashlane scans the web for any of your personal information that someone else may have accessed illegally. Then, we send you a notification if we find something. If your personal information appears on the dark web, your data may be involved in a breach.
The "dark web" refers to hidden websites sometimes used for illegal activities, such as selling and using other people's data.

Who gets Dark Web Monitoring notifications?
All Dashlane plans come with Dark Web Monitoring, but you need to set it up for each email address you want to monitor.
If you're part of a Dashlane professional plan, and your plan admin has set up Dark Web Insights, you'll automatically receive Dark Web Monitoring notifications for your work email address.
If you're an admin on a professional plan, you can set up Dark Web Insights for your organization's employees.
How does Dark Web Monitoring work?
Step 1: You choose the email addresses you want to track with Dark Web Monitoring. You can choose up to five addresses.
If you're part of a professional plan, your plan admin might have already set up Dark Web Monitoring for your work address. In this case, you'll see your work address in the Dark Web Monitoring section of the Dashlane app.
Step 2: Dashlane maintains a database of information that has been exposed on the dark web in breaches of other companies. We scan this database for personal information linked to the addresses you've chosen to monitor.
We look for these types of personal info and more:
- Usernames
- Passwords
- Contact information
- Credit card information
- Social Security numbers and other ID numbers
- Computer IP addresses
Step 3: We’ll send you an email asking you to confirm your request to set up Dark Web Monitoring. Open the email and confirm your request. You’ll then be taken to a confirmation page.
On the confirmation page, select See results to view your initial report. If we’ve found information linked to your email address on the dark web, the report will tell you what type of information is affected. We’ll also ask you to change any passwords included in the report.
Important: We tell you which passwords need to be changed so you can secure your account quickly. However, for security reasons, we don’t display any specific contact information, credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, ID numbers, or IP addresses found on the dark web.
If we haven’t found anything, we’ll share the good news and ask if you’d like to monitor other email addresses.
Step 4: We continue to scan the dark web and let you know if any new breaches affect your personal info. If we find anything to worry about, we'll notify you with a pop-up the next time you open Dashlane.
You can also view notifications in the Dark Web Monitoring section of the Dashlane app or the Password Health section when you select the Compromised tab.
Turn on Dark Web Monitoring
You can set up Dark Web Monitoring for up to five email addresses in the Dashlane app. If your organization has set up Dark Web Insights, you'll automatically receive Dark Web Monitoring notifications for your work email address.
Turn on Dark Web Monitoring in the web app
- Go to the Dark Web Monitoring section in the side menu of the web app.

If this is your first time using Dark Web Monitoring, select Monitor your first email. If you already use Dark Web Monitoring for other email addresses, select Add email.

Enter the email address you want to monitor and select Send activation link.

Look in your inbox for an email from Dashlane asking you to confirm. Open the email and select Yes, I confirm this request. You'll be taken to a confirmation page. Select See results to go back to the Dashlane app.
Your email address is marked Pending verification in Dashlane until you verify your address in your inbox. The link sent to your email stays valid for 24 hours. If you didn't receive the email, check your spam folder. After verification, your email address will be marked Monitoring.
Turn on Dark Web Monitoring in the Android app
- Select the three parallel lines to open the menu and select Dark Web Monitoring.

If this is your first time using Dark Web Monitoring, select Start monitoring. If you already use Dark Web Monitoring for other email addresses, select the down arrow for the list of monitored emails and select Add email.
- Enter the email address you want to monitor and select Confirm. Then select Open my email app to look for your confirmation email.
- Look in your inbox for an email from Dashlane asking you to confirm. Open the email and select Yes, I confirm this request. The email address is marked Pending your verification in Dashlane until you verify your address. The link sent to your email stays valid for 24 hours. If you didn't receive the email, check your spam folder.
Turn on Dark Web Monitoring in the iPhone app
- In the Tools section of the bottom menu of the Dashlane iPhone app, select Dark Web Monitoring.

If this is your first time using Dark Web Monitoring, select Start monitoring. If you already use Dark Web Monitoring for other email addresses, select the down arrow for the list of monitored emails and select Add email.
- Enter the email address you want to monitor and select Start monitoring.
- Look in your inbox for an email from Dashlane asking you to confirm. Open the email and select "Yes, I confirm this request." The email address is marked Pending your verification until you verify your address. The link sent to your email stays valid for 24 hours. If you didn't receive the email, check your spam folder.
What do I do when I get a Dark Web Monitoring notification?
We recommend changing any passwords related to the notification as soon as possible.

View the notification details in the pop-up notification. You can also find details in the Dark Web Monitoring and Password Health sections of the Dashlane app.

Go to the website or app affected by the notification and change your password. Then make sure to update the login in Dashlane.
- Delete the notification in the Dark Web Monitoring section of the Dashlane app. In the web app, select the X for the notification. In the mobile app, select the notification and select Delete alert. When you update a compromised password, your Password Health score updates automatically.
Note: You may receive notifications for logins that you haven't stored in Dashlane. These notifications are labeled "unknown website."
