For security reasons, some websites have an extra step called “user verification” when you save or log in with a passkey. User verification means the website asks for additional proof that the person logging in is who they say they are.

Depending on your account and settings, we'll ask for your Master Password, a PIN code, or biometrics like your face or fingerprint when you use a passkey on a site that requires user verification.

I don't want to enter my Master Password every time I use a passkey

You don’t need to enter your Master Password every time you use a passkey. To make the process faster and still secure, turn on biometric unlock or PIN unlock. Then you can use your face, fingerprint, or device PIN instead of your Master Password when verifying your identity.

Create a passkey verification PIN for single sign-on (SSO) accounts

If you log in to Dashlane using single sign-on (SSO), we'll ask you to create a device-specific PIN code the first time you create or use a passkey on sites requiring user verification. After that, you'll enter the same PIN each time you use a passkey for these sites on this device.

You can also create your passkey verification PIN at any time in your settings when using Dashlane in your web browser.

1. Log in to the Dashlane browser extension
2. Select the Vault menu in the top-right corner. Then select Settings.
3. Select Security settings.
4. Turn on the Passkey verification PIN.
5. We'll ask you to create your PIN. Enter your PIN and select Next.
6. Enter the same PIN again. You'll see a confirmation that your PIN is now active. If you want to change your PIN, turn the setting off and back on, then choose a new PIN.
