Where do I get the Safari app?
The app is available in the Mac App Store or through Safari Extensions.
Why is this app primarily for people who use Safari?
We designed the Safari app specifically for people who use Safari. The app integrates with only the Safari browser, allowing people to authenticate once and access both their extension and the web app.
Because the Chrome and Firefox extensions aren't embedded with this app, people using Chrome and Firefox would have to log in separately to both their extension and the app. If you use Chrome or Firefox and want a handy way to access your logins and personal info outside your browser, we recommend creating a desktop shortcut to the web app.
I thought Dashlane was going to be a web-first product. Why did you release another desktop app?
The Safari app can feel like a desktop app, but it's essentially our iOS app running alongside our Safari extension. Mac Catalyst is a way to build apps that share one common codebase and can run across iPadOS, iOS, and macOS. In that sense, we ported our iOS app for use on the desktop.
What are the minimum requirements to use the Safari app?
The Safari app is available for macOS devices running Monterey (macOS 12.0) or later.
If you're running a macOS version earlier than Monterey, you must upgrade your operating system to use the Dashlane Safari app. The latest version of macOS is always a free upgrade from Apple and can be installed on most Mac computers.
If you can't update your OS now, we know it's not ideal, but you'll need to install and use the Dashlane browser extension on another compatible browser.
People using Chrome and Firefox can access Dashlane with the web app.
Does the Safari app work offline?
As long as you've previously logged in on that device, have registered the device on your account, and aren't using 2-factor authentication at every login, you can access your data on the Safari app when offline.
How do I know if I am using the Safari app?
We renamed the now unavailable versions of the Dashlane extension using "Legacy."
- "Dashlane" was renamed "Dashlane - Legacy": This is the now unavailable version of the Safari app extension that worked with the now unavailable macOS desktop app.
- "Dashlane for Safari" was renamed "Dashlane for Safari - Legacy": This is the now unavailable version of the Dashlane web-first experience using a Safari app extension.
To confirm that you have the Safari app installed and enabled, open your Safari preferences:
- Open Safari.
- In the app menu, select Safari and then Preferences.
- In the window that opens, select Extensions.
If you have the Safari app, it's listed as "Dashlane." The old apps are labeled "Dashlane - Legacy" and "Dashlane for Safari - Legacy."
If you have both the Safari app and the old apps installed, clear any checkboxes labeled "Legacy" and select only the Safari app checkbox. If you were running older versions of the now unavailable Legacy apps, they might not have the "Legacy" label.
How do I manage my billing subscription?
If you purchased your Dashlane subscription on the Mac App Store, we've disabled all future billing and will no longer charge you on the billing date set by your plan. You can resubscribe by purchasing a new subscription on our website.
What happened to my subscription after you removed the legacy app from the Mac App Store?
To comply with Apple Mac App Store guidelines, we renamed the legacy apps:
- "Dashlane" was renamed "Dashlane - Legacy"
- "Dashlane for Safari" was renamed "Dashlane for Safari - Legacy"
These legacy apps were removed from the Mac App Store and replaced by the Dashlane app for Safari.
As a result, Mac App Store subscriptions to the legacy apps set to renew automatically won't renew. If you have a subscription through the Mac App Store, we'll notify you so you can purchase a new subscription on our website.
I purchased a Premium Plus subscription on the Mac App Store. Why can't I renew my Premium Plus subscription?
Dashlane no longer sells Premium Plus and Premium Plus Family plans. Please consider switching to another plan.
Is 2FA available on the Safari app?
No. 2-factor authentication (2FA) settings can't be changed or viewed when using Safari. You can change the settings only when using Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and other Chromium browsers, such as Brave, Opera, or Vivaldi. You can still use Safari to enjoy the full Dashlane experience, but you'll need to use another browser to adjust your 2FA settings.
Is the VPN available on the Safari app?
Yes. The VPN feature is available on the Safari app.
Can I use Touch ID to unlock the Safari app?
Yes. You can unlock the Safari app using Touch ID.
- Turn on Touch ID in your device settings.
- From the main menu, select the Settings menu, shown as a gear icon.
- Select Security and turn on Use Touch ID.
Can I use dark mode on the Safari app?
Yes. After you've enabled dark mode on your macOS device, you can use Dark Mode on the Safari app.
Can I use Master Password reset with biometrics on the Safari app?
Everyone who has a device with Touch ID can reset their Master Password using biometrics. Note that if you're a member of a Dashlane Business plan with single sign-on (SSO) enabled, this feature isn't available because you don't have a Master Password.
To use this feature to reset your Master Password, you must have previously enabled the feature in the Dashlane app settings.
How to activate the feature
You must complete two steps to reset your Master Password with biometrics.
- Turn on Touch ID.
- Turn on Master Password reset. Enter your Master Password if asked.
Important to note:
Because the two features are linked, if you turn off Face ID or Touch ID from your app settings, the Master Password reset with biometrics feature will also be turned off.
Adding a new fingerprint to the biometrics settings on your device or manually logging out from your device turns off the biometric lock and the Master Password reset with biometrics features automatically. To ensure the security of your Dashlane account, enter your Master Password at your next login and turn on both features again.
How to reset your Master Password
After you've turned on Master Password reset, if you enter the wrong password when asked or fail to authenticate the biometrics when logging in (by providing an incorrect fingerprint pattern for Touch ID), the app offers the option to reset your Master Password.
If you have 2FA turned on, you'll be able to use this feature but must enter the 6-digit token from your authenticator app before continuing with the following flow.
