If you lose your recovery codes for 2-factor authentication (2FA), you have two options depending on your plan:

You can have new recovery codes sent by text message to the phone number you used when you set up 2FA.
Note: We can't currently send recovery codes by text to mobile numbers from Singapore, Curaçao, or the Dominican Republic. If you have a phone number from one of these countries, you can set up 2FA with that number. But make sure to save your recovery codes in a safe place because we can't send you more codes by text.
- If you're a member of a professional plan that enforces 2FA, your Dashlane admin can generate new recovery codes for you.
What are recovery codes?
When you first turn on 2FA for your Dashlane account, we ask you to save recovery codes. These codes are helpful if you lose the phone you use with 2FA. You can use the codes as a temporary solution to access your account and turn off 2FA.
Use new recovery codes sent by text to reset 2FA
You can get two new recovery codes sent by text to the number you used when you first set up 2FA. You'll use the first recovery code to log in to you Dashlane account and the second to turn off 2FA.
Step 1: Get new recovery codes sent by text and use them to log in on the web
- Open Dashlane in your web browser
- Enter your Dashlane login email address and select Next.
- A security check confirms the request is genuine, so attackers can't fake the process or trick you into a login on a fake website.
- Dashlane asks for a verification code. Select Log in another way and then select Reset 2FA.
- On the next page, your email is populated. Select Get recovery code.
- Then, select Use recovery code.

You'll see a new page in Dashlane where you enter your recovery code. Keep the page open, and look for a text message from Dashlane to the phone number you used when you set up 2FA.
The text will have two recovery codes. You'll use the first code to log in to Dashlane and the second to turn off 2FA.
- On the Dashlane page, enter the recovery code. Select Log in.
- Enter your Master Password and select Log in.
Next, use the second recovery code to turn off 2FA so you can turn the setting on again in your web browser.
Step 2: Turn off 2FA using a recovery code on the web
Use the second recovery code you received by text to turn off 2FA.

- In the Dashlane Android app, enter your Dashlane login email address and select Continue.
- A security check confirms the request is genuine, so attackers can't fake the process or trick you into a login on a fake website.

Dashlane asks for a verification code. Select Trouble signing in.
- In the pop-up, select I can't access my 2FA app.

In the next pop-up, select Receive a text message.

Then select Send. Keep the screen open, and look for a text message from Dashlane to the phone number you used when you set up 2FA.
The text will have two recovery codes. You'll use the first code to log in to Dashlane and the second to turn off 2FA.
- In the next pop-up, copy and paste the first recovery code. Select Next.

Enter your Master Password and select Log in.
Next, use the second recovery code to turn off 2FA so you can turn the setting on again in your web browser.
Step 2: Turn off 2FA using a recovery code on Android
Use the second recovery code you received by text to turn off 2FA.

- In the Dashlane iPhone app, enter your Dashlane login email address and select Next.
- The Security check screen appears. Select the checkbox. This security check confirms the request is genuine, so attackers can't fake the process or trick you into a login on a fake website.
- Dashlane asks for a verification code. Select Trouble signing in.

On the next screen, select I can't access my 2FA app.
- On the Can't access 2FA app screen, select Receive a text message.

On the next screen, select Send text message. Keep the screen open, and look for a text message from Dashlane to the phone number you used when you set up 2FA.
The text will have two recovery codes. You'll use the first code to log in to Dashlane and the second to turn off 2FA.
- On the Receive a code by text message screen, copy and paste the first recovery code you received by text and select Log in.
- Enter your Master Password and select Next.
Next, use the second recovery code to turn off 2FA so you can turn the setting on again in your web browser.

Ask your admin to generate new recovery codes
If you're on a professional plan that enforces 2FA, contact your Dashlane admin and ask them to generate new recovery codes for you.
