Lock your Dashlane app when you're not using it

You can lock the Dashlane app at any time by selecting Lock or Lock app, depending on the device you're using. On mobile, you can also set up the app to lock automatically.

Select the app you want to lock.

When you use Dashlane in your web browser, you have the option to lock your app if you have an account protected by a Master Password and have turned on PIN unlock, biometric unlock, or both.

While your app is locked, you can't access your data. We'll also stop autofilling your information until you unlock the app.

To lock the app, select the Dashlane D in your browser toolbar to open the extension pop-up, then select More and Lock. You can also lock the extension from your Dashlane vault by opening the Vault menu in the top left of the app and selecting Lock.

If you have a passwordless account protected by a PIN code or security key, you don't have the option to lock the web app and extension. Instead, you can log out of your account, which is similar to locking an account protected by a Master Password. When you log out of an account protected by a PIN code or security key in your browser, you'll use your PIN code or security key to get back in.

You can lock your app anytime by selecting the three parallel lines to open the side menu. Then select Lock app at the bottom of the menu.

If you've turned on PIN lock, biometric unlock, or both, or you have a passwordless Dashlane account, you'll use your fingerprint or PIN code to open Dashlane after locking your Android app. If you don't have a passwordless account and haven't turned on PIN lock or biometric unlock on your mobile device, you'll need your Master Password to get back in.

You can also set your app to lock automatically after you've been inactive. This setting ensures that no one can access your data, even if you lose your phone.

  1. Log in to the Dashlane Android app.
  2. Select the three parallel lines to open the side menu.
  3. Select Settings and then Security.
  4. Select Auto-lock time.

  5. From the menu, select a period of time. If you don't use Dashlane for the selected period, the app locks automatically.

    The timeout is set to 15 minutes automatically. But you can choose any amount of time between 5 seconds and 15 minutes. Select Never to turn Auto-lock off.

  1. Log in to the Dashlane Android app.
  2. Select the three parallel lines to open the side menu.
  3. Select Settings and then Security.
  4. Select Auto-lock - Lock on exit.

If you turn off Auto-lock - lock on exit, we'll ask for your Master Password or your fingerprint if you've turned on biometric unlock.

You can lock your app anytime by selecting Settings in the bottom menu of the Dashlane app. Then select Lock app at the bottom of the screen.

If you've turned on Use Face ID, Use PIN, or both, or you have a passwordless Dashlane account, you'll use your Face ID or PIN code to open Dashlane after locking your iPhone app. If you don't have a passwordless account and haven't turned on Use Face ID or Use PIN on your mobile device, you'll need your Master Password to get back in.

You can also set your app to lock automatically after you've been inactive. This setting ensures that no one can access your data, even if you lose your phone.

  1. Log in to the Dashlane iPhone app.
  2. Select Settings and then Security.
  3. For Auto-lock timeout, select the existing amount shown to open the menu, for example, 5 minutes.

  4. From the menu, select a period of time. If you don't use Dashlane for the selected period, the app locks automatically.

    You can choose an amount of time between 10 seconds and 10 minutes. Select Never to turn off Auto-lock timeout.

On the same screen, turn on Lock on exit to lock your app automatically whenever you leave it—when you go to the home screen, switch between apps, or close the screen.

To turn off Lock on exit, you'll need to enter your Master Password or use Face ID if you've turned it on.
