I have Dashlane Free or have been granted free Premium from a referral. What happens when I buy or join a Friends & Family plan?
Buying the Friends & Family plan automatically elevates your account to Premium, and you can invite up to nine friends or family members to benefit from Dashlane Premium.
Joining a Friends & Family plan elevates your account to Premium. As part of the plan, you can enjoy all of Dashlane's Premium features.
I have a Premium or Premium Plus account. What happens when I purchase or join a Friends & Family plan?
If you accept an invitation to join an existing Friends & Family plan, your current subscription is paused. When the Friends & Family plan ends or is canceled, your prior Premium or Premium Plus subscription will resume. If you had a free account, your account will return to free status.
If you buy a Friends & Family plan, depending on your current subscription and platform, you'll either be offered a prorated price, or you'll have to wait until the end of your current billing cycle for your account to be upgraded.
I'm a member of a Dashlane Business plan. What happens when I purchase or join a Friends & Family plan?
Members of Dashlane Business plans receive free Friends & Family plans. If you're a Dashlane Starter or Team member and purchase a Friends & Family plan, the plan runs in parallel with your currently active subscription.
Remember that all Dashlane accounts in a Friends & Family plan are individual and not connected. The other accounts in the plan aren't connected to your Business plan.
If your Business plan ends, your account and all members included in the plan revert to their previous subscription status—Free, (individual) Premium, or Premium Plus.
When you're upgrading to a Friends & Family plan, depending on your current subscription and where you purchased the plan from, you might benefit from a discount based on the amount of time remaining on your paid subscription. To know if a discount applies to you, make sure to have a look at our interactive guide.
The prices for our plans vary depending on your region, but the maximum discount you can receive is equal to two-thirds of the purchase price.
Exceptions exist for people buying their Friends & Family plan through the iOS App Store and the Google Play store:
- If you bought your existing subscription somewhere other than through these app stores but then purchase your Friends & Family plan through one of the stores, you can't receive a discount.
- If you bought both your existing subscription and your Friends & Family plan through one of these app stores and a prorated discount is applicable, you receive an equivalent reimbursement directly from Apple or Google instead of a discount.
Note: The Friends & Family plan is currently not available on the Mac App Store.
Example of how we calculate the discount:
John is upgrading from Premium to Friends & Family plan, and the original value of his annual plan is $59.99.
Each month left from his original plan is worth $5. If John had four months of Premium remaining, his discount is $5 x 4, or $20.
Are there any special requirements to be part of a Friends & Family plan?
No, there are no special requirements to get a Friends & Family plan. If you can get Dashlane, you can purchase or join a Friends & Family plan.
Note: You can't purchase or join a new Friends & Family plan if you're already part of an existing one.
Friends & Family plan provides Premium for up to 10 people, including the account serving as the plan's admin. A Friends & Family plan is a good deal even with only two people, so couples, friends, or small families shouldn't hesitate to sign up!
Yes. All you need to do is to send that person the new invitation web address. You can find the invitation web address on your Friends & Family Dashboard.
A Friends & Family plan account can have only one admin.
Currently, the person who purchases the Friends & Family plan is made the admin of that plan. For now, you can't change the current admin without canceling the plan.
What if the admin moves to a new Dashlane account?
The Dashlane ID (login email) of the account used to purchase the Friends & Family plan will always be the plan admin. Because of this, the Friends & Family plan can't be transferred and will still be associated with the original account even if the admin creates a new Dashlane account.
In this case, we suggest that the admin cancel their subscription and use the remaining time of their Friends & Family plan before moving to a new account.
The admin can also join the Friends & Family plan as a family member with the new account if the plan has at least one spot available.
Yes. As the admin, the Friends & Family plan Dashboard is linked to your current account. To access your Friends & Family plan Dashboard, log in to your Dashlane account in your browser.
Each person added to a Friends & Family plan has the same storage as a regular Premium subscriber. Each person has 5 GB of storage available for storing items in the cloud and unlimited password and data storage.
No, for now, this option isn't available.
Absolutely not. Your data isn't mixed or merged with other members' data or shared in any way. Like any Dashlane Premium account, your data remains yours and yours only.
Remember that Dashlane enables you to securely share individual items or all of your Dashlane data with other members or anyone with a Dashlane account.
Yes, all the accounts in a Friends & Family plan are independent. Even though a person is part of your Friends & Family plan, you don't have access to the contents of their account.
Yes. Each Friends & Family member has full, individual access to all Premium features, including the VPN.
Yes, your data is always linked to your account and visible only to you. When you leave a Friends & Family plan, this doesn't change.
