Find answers to problems customers sometimes have using Autofill in Dashlane.
Fix problems with Dashlane Autofill
If you want to use Dashlane on Safari, we recommend that you install the Dashlane Safari extension. You'll have access to more of Dashlane's features and tools without needing to open the separate Dashlane macOS app. The Safari extension has our feature-rich extension pop-up and in-browser vault view, as well as the best Autofill capabilities that Dashlane has to offer.
Get started with the Dashlane Safari extension
With Dashlane on Android and Apple phones and tablets, Dashlane can autofill login details only, which include your username and password. Autofill works on Android 8 and later.
Download the Dashlane extension and log in
To use Autofill on your computer, you need the latest version of the Dashlane extension for the browser you're using. An extension—also called a plug-in—is a small program you download to add features to your browser.
Check for the latest version of the extension
You also need to log in to Dashlane. The Dashlane D is dark green (or dark gray in Safari) if you're logged in and orange (or light gray in Safari) if you're not logged in. If you're not logged in, select the Dashlane D and select Log in.
For most browsers, the extension icon is to the right of your address bar. In Safari, the extension icon is to the left of your address bar. If you haven't pinned the extension, you might not see the extension in your toolbar. In that case, check your browser extensions menu.

We strongly recommend that you turn off autofill for other password managers and browsers.
Reset your browser
If you've logged in to the Dashlane extension, but Autofill still isn't working, sometimes these steps will fix the problem:
- Refresh the page
- Close and reopen the browser
- Clear the cookies and cache for the browser
Check Dashlane for the info you're trying to autofill
Check your Dashlane account for the item you want to autofill, and then check the item itself to make sure all the correct info is included.
For a login to work with Autofill, you need to enter at least the Website, Username or Email address, and Password. But we recommend entering as much information as possible. Also, make sure that you've saved the info in the correct item fields.
Make sure that the address of the webpage you’re trying to autofill matches the address you've saved in Dashlane for that login. The address might be a "subdomain" or secondary webpage. For example, you might see shop.spotify.com rather than www.spotify.com. For Autofill to work correctly, you may need to add the subdomain to the login in Dashlane.

Websites and apps that ask for extra login info
Some websites ask for extra login information—like an ID number, a PIN code, or a secret phrase—in addition to a username and password. If a site or app asks for extra login info, we recommend these steps:
- Store extra login information in the Alternate username section of the login saved in Dashlane
- Go to the site or app that asks for extra login info.
- Find the extra login field, select the Dashlane D for that field, and select the login you want to autofill. If you don't see the Dashlane D or Dashlane autofills the wrong info, follow these steps:
- Right-click in the extra login field and select Dashlane.
- Find and select the login for the site or app.
- Select Alternative username.
Dashlane autofills the extra login information you saved in the Alternative username in the first step.
- Log in to your account.
Dashlane remembers your selection and will autofill the information saved in the Alternative username section the next time you log in.
Complex forms and logins
For complex forms and logins, you may need to add information to several sections of your Dashlane account. For example, some logins require both an ID number and a password. In this case, you need to make sure you’ve entered the correct information in both the IDs and Logins sections of Dashlane.
Ask Dashlane to autofill something else
Sometimes Dashlane autofills the wrong information. But we make this problem easy to fix.
- Select the field with incorrect information.
- Select the 3-dot menu and then select Autofill something else from the list.
- Choose the item you want to autofill from the list.
- You can also select the magnifying glass icon to search Dashlane for another item in your vault.
Use the right-click menu to choose an item to autofill
You can right-click on a field and select Dashlane. A menu appears with possible items to autofill.
Other steps
For complex forms and logins, you may need to add information to several sections of your Dashlane account. For example, some logins require both an ID number and a password. In this case, you need to make sure you’ve entered the correct information in both the IDs and Logins sections of Dashlane.
Some forms may have multiple lines for your address, or you may have more than one name to choose from for payment info. You can view the details for each form field on a website and make the proper selection.
Make sure Autofill is turned on for the website or form field you're using
We turn on Autofill automatically when you install the extension. But you can turn off Autofill for any of the websites or form fields you use. If Autofill isn't working, check your Autofill settings for the website you want to use.
Make sure Autofill is turned on for the website where you're having a problem
- Go to the website you want to use with Autofill.
- Select the Dashlane D in your browser toolbar.
- In the extension pop-up, select Autofill in the top menu to open the website's Autofill settings.
- In the next pop-up, we tell you if Autofill is paused for the website you're using. You can select Resume to start using Autofill again for that website.
If Autofill is turned on for the website, you see a note informing you that we turn on Autofill automatically. You have the option to pause Autofill for this website.
Autofill may be turned off by your admin for certain websites and IP addresses
If you're part of a Dashlane professional plan, your plan admin controls Dashlane's Autofill and auto-login features. If you notice that Autofill isn't working on a website, your admin might have paused Autofill for that website or IP address.
To check, open your Dashlane extension and select Autofill in the top menu to open the website's Autofill settings. If the Resume option is gray, your admin turned off Autofill, and Autofill won't work for the website or IP address. If you believe that Autofill was turned off by mistake, contact your plan admin.
Make sure Autofill is turned on for the form field where you're having a problem
From the extension, you can turn off Dashlane Autofill for all logins, all forms, or specific types of vault items like names, emails, addresses, and payments. You can also turn off the "copy and paste" pop-ups. Turning off Autofill affects all the websites you visit. Check if you turned off Autofill for the field you're having problems with. You can turn on Autofill again anytime.
For example, you've saved your address in your vault and turned off Autofill for addresses only. On all websites, the D icon won't appear in address fields. Dashlane won't autofill your address or suggest saving the information you enter. If you have information saved in Dashlane for other form fields, those fields still display a D icon.
