This article responds to problems customers sometimes have using Autofill in Dashlane.
How does Autofill work?
Select the device you're using.
If you use Safari as your browser: Dashlane now uses macOS native autofill for the web app in Safari. For a better autofill experience, you must set up the alternative autofill solution. This solution lets Dashlane autofill your usernames and passwords but not other fields like your address, phone number, or payment information. To autofill all types of data, you must use Dashlane in another supported browser.

When you visit a website, look for the Dashlane D in the login fields. A dark green D icon means we have the information already. A gray D icon means we don't. While you can manually enter your info, you can also select the gray D icon and choose to autofill with something else that's already in your vault.
With Dashlane on Android devices, Dashlane can autofill login details only, which include your username and password. Autofill works on Android 8 and later.
When Autofill is working, you'll see the Dashlane D when you try to log in to an app or website or fill out a form. Depending on your settings, the Dashlane D will be below the field you want to autofill or above your keyboard.
When you select a field, Dashlane suggests information to autofill.
You can also select the Dashlane D or View all logins to search Dashlane for other information. Or you can select Add new login to add a login to Dashlane.
With Dashlane on iOS (Apple) devices, Dashlane can autofill login details only, which include your username and password. Apple doesn’t let us autofill other information like addresses or credit card info.
When Autofill is working and you try to log in to a site or app on your iOS (Apple) device, Dashlane suggests a login to use.
You'll see a suggestion with a key icon if you have a login saved for the website or app. Select the suggested login, and Dashlane autofills the username and password. You can also select the key icon to choose a different login.
If we're confident that we know which login to use for this website or app, you'll see a suggestion in place of your keyboard. You can still use the keyboard by selecting the keyboard icon on the lower left. You can choose a different login by selecting the key icon on the lower right.
If you don't have a login for a website or app or the login you tried didn't work, select Passwords to search for other logins or add a login to Dashlane. For some browsers and apps, you might always see this option.

Download the Dashlane extension and log in
To use Autofill on your computer, you need the latest version of the Dashlane extension for the browser you're using. An extension—also called a plug-in—is a small program you download to add features to your browser.
Check for the latest version of the extension
You also need to log in to Dashlane. The Dashlane D is dark green (or dark gray in Safari) if you're logged in and orange (or light gray in Safari) if you're not logged in. If you're not logged in, select the Dashlane D, enter your Master Password, and select Log in.
For most browsers, the extension icon is to the right of your address bar. In Safari, the extension icon is to the left of your address bar. If you haven't pinned the extension, you might not see the extension in your toolbar. In that case, check your browser extensions menu.
Can't find the extension?

Check your Dashlane account for the item you want to autofill, and then check the item itself to make sure all the correct info is included.
For a login to work with Autofill, you need to enter at least the Website, Username or Email address, and Password. But we recommend entering as much information as possible. Also, make sure that you've saved the info in the correct item fields.
For complex forms and logins, you may need to add information to several sections of your Dashlane account. For example, some logins require both an ID number and a password. In this case, you need to make sure you’ve entered the correct information in both the IDs and Logins sections of Dashlane.
Check the web address saved in Dashlane
Make sure that the address of the webpage you’re trying to autofill matches the address you've saved in Dashlane for that login.
The address might be a "subdomain" or secondary webpage. For example, you might see shop.spotify.com rather than www.spotify.com. For Autofill to work correctly, you may need to add the subdomain to the login in Dashlane.
Ask Dashlane to autofill something else
Sometimes Dashlane autofills the wrong information. But we make this problem easy to fix.
- Select the field with incorrect information.
- Select the 3-dot menu and Autofill something else.
- Choose from the information you want to autofill from the list that appears. Or select the magnifying glass icon to search Dashlane for another item in your vault.
Note: If you use Safari as your browser, the 3-dot menu won't appear.
You can also right-click on the field and select Dashlane. A menu appears with possible items to autofill.
Note: If you use Safari as your browser, the right-click menu won't appear.
If these steps don't solve the problem, go to the Dashlane app and find the item you want to autofill. Make sure that you've saved the item info in the correct places.

Make sure Autofill is turned on for the website you're using
We turn on Autofill automatically when you install the extension. But you can turn off Autofill for any of the sites you use. If Autofill isn't working, check your Autofill settings for the site you want to use.
Note: If you use Safari as your browser, you can't turn Autofill on or off.
- Go to the website you want to use with Autofill.
- Select the Dashlane D in your browser toolbar.
- In the extension pop-up, select Autofill in the top menu to open the website's Autofill settings.
- In the next pop-up, we tell you if Autofill is paused for the site you're using. You can select Resume to start using Autofill again for that site.
If Autofill is turned on for the website, you see a note informing you that we turn on Autofill automatically. You have the option to pause Autofill for this website.
Make sure the website you're using is set up for Autofill
With some websites, Dashlane Autofill doesn't work or only works in certain situations.
Virtual and onscreen keyboards
You can't autofill when you use a virtual keyboard, also referred to as an onscreen keyboard. These keyboards don't work well with Dashlane. We can sometimes autofill your username, but you usually need to enter the password manually.
Captcha codes
Dashlane can't autofill captcha codes because these are temporary codes generated by the website. You need to enter the code manually.
Flash and Silverlight
Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight are programs for creating interactive visual effects on websites. Autofill doesn't work on websites that use these programs.
Basic Auth
Basic Auth, also known as basic access authentication, is a type of login used for extra security. Basic Auth is sometimes used by companies for their internal sites as well as by certain banks and financial institutions.
Dashlane Autofill works with Basic Auth, but only in Chrome and Firefox for secured websites—web addresses beginning with "https" and not "http". In this situation, Autofill works best when you only have one login saved per website.
