Find answers to common questions about the sharing feature, permission levels, and sharing groups in professional plans.
General
Is sharing in Dashlane secure?
Unlike emails and text messages, Dashlane is a secure way to share data.
Emails and text messages travel unprotected over the internet and cellphone networks. The email provider or messaging app also copies the message in several places, such as their servers and the device of your recipient. Anyone with access to these places can access what you wrote.
When you send a login or Secure Note with Dashlane, we "encrypt" or scramble what you send with the best security system available. Only you and those you choose to share with can access your data.
We recommend you that never share a password or personal information by email or text message. Use Dashlane secure sharing instead.
How do I share one of my items with a member of my Friends & Family plan?
If you have a Friends & Family plan, you share with other members of the plan the same way you do with anyone else. Each person in a Friends & Family plan has their own account.
If I’ve already shared items with Limited or Full rights, do the permission levels update automatically to one of the four permission levels?
Yes, any items you’ve shared will automatically be updated to one of the available permission levels that better map to the new permission levels.
- Full rights updates to Full access
- Limited rights updates to Can autofill for logins and Can view for Secure Notes and secrets

Share with members of professional plans
What can admins and members of professional plans share?
Admins and members of Team, Omnix Password Management, and Omnix Enterprise plans can share Collections of work logins and Secure Notes.
If you're a member of a professional plan, you can share with groups and individuals who are part of your organization with Dashlane accounts. If you're an admin of a Starter plan, you can share one Collection.
Share Collections with members of professional plans
Secrets are available only to admins and members of organizations with Password Management.
What are sharing groups in professional plans?
Professional plan members can share multiple items with multiple members at the same time with sharing groups. The steps provided throughout this article also apply to sharing groups.
Only professional plan members can share within groups. Your admin creates sharing groups and adds plan members to the groups.
For admins: Create and manage groups
Note: For professional plan members, any items shared in a group don't need to be accepted. The items will appear in your vault.
I shared an item with a plan member and shared the same item in a sharing group in my professional plan. Which permission level will apply if they don't match?
When you share with a group, all members receive the same permission level you choose. If you share an item in more than one way—for example, directly with a person and also in a group that includes that person—the highest permission level is always applied.
Example:
- Rob shares an item with Anne, giving her Can autofill permission. Anne can't reveal, copy, edit, or share the password.
- Rob then shares the same item in a group with Can edit permission. Anne is a member of this group.
Result: Anne now has Can edit permission for the shared item. She can autofill, reveal, copy, and edit the item.
How do I find items shared through a professional plan group?
After a plan member shares items with a group, all group members automatically receive access to the items. Shared items appear in the Sharing Center and in the Logins or Secure Notes sections. Secrets are available only to admins and members of organizations with Password Management.
Shared items may take several minutes to appear within a sharing group. If an item doesn't appear, you can use the Dashlane web app or macOS and select Sync now to sync your data immediately. The iPhone and Android apps don't have this button. But you can close and reopen the apps to sync immediately on these devices.
In the web app, open the Vault menu in the top left of the page. In the Settings menu, select Sync now.
For the Dashlane macOS app, first open the app and then go to the browser menu, and select Sync now in the Sync menu.
How do I revoke shared access in professional plans?
If an item isn't shared by a plan admin or is shared with Full access, only the person who shared the item can revoke access.
Items are shared and attached to a group and not to you individually. If you're removed from a sharing group, you no longer have access to shared items in that group.
To revoke access for a single plan member, ask your admin to remove the person from the sharing group.
If you're removed from a professional plan, any items in your Dashlane Password Manager account shared through a sharing group will also be removed. Sharing groups are only available for plan members.
