If you've previously used Safari, follow these instructions to upgrade. If you use another browser like Chrome, Firefox, or Edge, no action is needed.
If you use an iPad or iPhone, you don't need an extension. Everything you need is contained in the Dashlane app on your iPad and iPhone.
Important: With the Dashlane Safari extension, self-hosted SSO isn’t available at this time due to Apple limitations, but you can use it through the macOS app. SSO means "single sign-on" and is typically offered to employees in a company. SSO means you use one login application to access Dashlane and your work accounts. If you don't know whether you have SSO, ask your manager or plan admin. If you have a personal account, you can disregard this message.
Dashlane offers a macOS app and a Safari extension. The Safari extension leverages Apple's latest technology. An extension—also called a plug-in or an add-on—is a small program you download to add features to your computer browser. You can add the Safari extension to your Safari browser.
More about the Dashlane extension
With the Dashlane Safari extension, you can use more of Dashlane's features and tools without needing to open the separate Dashlane macOS app. You have access to our feature-rich extension pop-up and in-browser vault view, as well as the best Autofill capabilities that Dashlane has to offer.

About the Dashlane macOS app
I thought Dashlane was going to be a web-first product. Is the Dashlane macOS app another desktop app?
The Dashlane macOS app opens in its own window on your computer desktop, instead of in a browser tab. The macOS app is available for macOS computers and works independently of the Dashlane Safari extension. The macOS app and Safari extension are installed together from the App Store. You can use the macOS app alongside the Safari extension if you choose.
Our goal is to continue providing the best possible experience for our customers who use Safari, which is why we've released the Dashlane Safari extension. The extension incorporates all the recent Autofill improvements available on Chrome and Firefox, while still providing an Apple-native experience.
What does Dashlane look like on the macOS app?
You'll find the Dashlane macOS app workflows are similar to the workflows when you use the Dashlane app on the iPad. Open the Dashlane macOS app from your computer's Applications folder, the Launchpad, or from the dock if you moved it.
Example of the Dashlane macOS app appearing on the Launchpad screen. Open Launchpad from the dock and select the Dashlane icon to open the macOS app.
On the Dashlane macOS app, you can access your Logins, Secure Notes, Payments, Personal Info, and IDs from the left menu. You can also check your Password Health, set up Collections, and share items in your vault.

About the Dashlane Safari extension
The Dashlane Safari extension improves your online experience. An extension—also called a plug-in or an add-on—is a small program you download to add features to your computer browser.
From the extension pop-up, use the shortcuts to open the web app, sync your devices, and access our Help Center. You can also manage your logins and other data, and access Autofill settings and our Password Generator. The extension is optional but reduces your need to use the Dashlane macOS app. With the extension, you can use more Dashlane features and tools right in your browser.
What does Dashlane look like in the Safari extension?
If you have the Safari extension installed, select the Dashlane D gray icon next to the Safari address bar to open the extension pop-up.
In the extension pop-up, you have two menus near the top to access your data, change your Autofill settings, and generate passwords. At the bottom of the pop-up, select Open the web app to open the app in a new browser tab for more features.
The Safari extension and web app work the same way as the extension and web app in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Chromium-based browsers like Opera and Brave. You can use any instructions you find for the extension or the web app when you have the Safari extension installed.
Minimum requirements
The Dashlane Safari extension is available for macOS devices using Sonoma (macOS 14.0) or later.
You'll need to update to the latest version of macOS to use the Safari extension. The latest version of macOS is always a free upgrade from Apple, and you can install it on most Mac computers.
If you can't update your OS now, we know it's not ideal, but you'll need to install and use the Dashlane extension on another compatible browser.
People using Chrome and Firefox can access Dashlane with the web app.
Dashlane Safari extension and Autofill experience
With the Dashlane Safari extension, you have improved control over Autofill. This extension aligns with Apple's security and privacy standards and completely integrates with the Apple ecosystem. With our Machine Learning Autofill Engine, Autofill works everywhere you go with improved accuracy and faster adaptation.
You can use all the previously available Autofill capabilities for forms, payment, and personal information. You can also save and update passwords as you browse and use the in-field Password Generator. And the Dashlane Safari extension has the latest improvements that were only available on Chrome and Firefox.
