You can securely save all your data by exporting to a DASH file. DASH files are encrypted, so no one can read them without a password that you create. With a DASH file, you can import your data back into a new or existing Dashlane account.
Note: DASH files are unique to Dashlane and can't be used with other password manager apps. If you're trying to move your data to another password manager, use a CSV file.

When should I use a DASH file?
DASH files are useful for storing your Dashlane data securely so you or someone else can use the data later. You can also use DASH files to move your data safely between Dashlane accounts or to a new Dashlane account. You may want to use a DASH file in these situations:
Recover a Dashlane account
Dashlane never stores or shares your Master Password. So, we can't tell you your Master Password if you forget it. To ensure the security and privacy of your data, we don't have a traditional "reset password" process like other apps. If you've forgotten your Master Password, you may need to reset your account, which erases all the data you've saved in Dashlane.
If you forget your Master Password, haven't turned on a recovery method, and need to reset your account, you can restore your data if you've backed it up on a DASH file. If you want to have the option to restore your Dashlane data in this way, back up your data to a DASH file regularly and keep the password to open the file someplace safe.

Move data to another Dashlane account
You can use a DASH file to securely move all your data from one Dashlane account to another.
- Export your data to a DASH file
- Create your new Dashlane account if you haven't already. Open the Dashlane extension or mobile app and select Create an account.
- Import the DASH file to your new Dashlane account
Change your Dashlane login email
When you create a Dashlane account, you choose a login email address, also called a Dashlane ID. For security reasons, you can't change the login email that you use to access your account. If you need to use a different login email with Dashlane, you can move your account using a DASH file.
- Export your data to a DASH file
- Create a new Dashlane account with the login email you want. Open the Dashlane extension or mobile app and select Create an account.
- Import the DASH file to your new Dashlane account
If you don't need to change your login email but want to change where you receive communications from Dashlane, you can choose a new contact email address anytime.
Share your Dashlane data with a trusted person in case of emergency
With DASH files, you can securely share logins and personal information with a trusted friend or family member in emergency situations. You'll need to back up your data regularly and take some steps in advance to share the file.

You can export DASH files only in the web app and the Android app. You can't export DASH files using the iOS (Apple) or macOS app. If you have Apple devices, use the web app in a browser like Chrome or Firefox to export your data.
Export to a DASH file in the web app
Important: If you get Dashlane through work and the admin of your plan has turned on Smart Space Management, your export will include only your personal information and nothing from your Business Space. Before exporting, move personal items from your Business Space to your Personal Space or contact an admin.
Smart Space Management
- In the My account menu, select Settings and then Export Data.
- Enter your Master Password and select Unlock.
- Select Export to DASH. If you have Dashlane through work and your plan admin has turned on Smart Space Management, a message appears asking you to move personal items from your Business Space to your Personal Space. Move any personal items to your Personal Space and select Continue.
- Create a new password specifically for your DASH file export. This password should be different from your Dashlane Master Password. Be sure to remember your password. You'll need this password to access your DASH file.
- Select Export data.
Dashlane downloads the DASH file to your computer's "Downloads" folder or your default download location. The DASH export will include logins, 2FA tokens, and Secure Notes. Passwords shared with limited rights and files attached to Secure Notes aren't included in DASH exports. If you have files attached to Secure Notes, you can download your Secure Notes file attachments.

Important: If you get Dashlane through work and the admin of your plan has turned on Smart Space Management, your export will include only your personal information and nothing from your Business Space. Before exporting, move personal items from your Business Space to your Personal Space or contact an admin.
Smart Space Management
- Select the More icon, shown as three horizontal lines.
- In the Settings menu, select General and then Export your data. If you have Dashlane through work and your plan admin has turned on Smart Space Management, a message appears asking you to move personal items from your Business Space to your Personal Space. Move any personal items to your Personal Space and select Continue.
- Enter your Master Password and select Unlock.
- Create a password specifically for your DASH file export. This password should be different from your Dashlane Master Password. Be sure to remember your password. You'll need this password to access your DASH file export later.
- Select Encrypt and export.
Dashlane downloads the DASH file to your phone's "Downloads" folder. Your DASH export will include logins, 2FA tokens, and Secure Notes. Passwords shared with limited rights and files attached to Secure Notes aren't included in DASH exports. If you have files attached to Secure Notes, you can download your Secure Notes file attachments.
After export, you can store your DASH file on your device. The file is encrypted and protected by the password you created. So your data is secure when stored in a DASH file. If you make changes in Dashlane, export a new file to keep your stored data current. Whenever you want to use the DASH file, you can import to a new or existing Dashlane account.
Import a DASH file
You can import data with a DASH file using the web app or the Android or iOS (Apple) mobile apps. At this time, you can't import data using the macOS app.

Import a DASH file in the web app
- In the My account menu, select Settings and then Import data.
- Select Dashlane backup (DASH) as the source. Then select Get started.
- Drag the file from your computer to the space provided, or select browse your computer files to search for the file on your desktop. After the file uploads, select Next.
- Enter the password you created when you exported the DASH file, and select Unlock. We import the data automatically into your account.
Import a DASH file in the Android app
- From the Home menu, select + Add item and then Logins.
- Select Want to import multiple passwords? Then select From an encrypted backup file.
- Find the file on your device and select Done.
- Enter the password you created when you exported the DASH file and select Unlock and restore.
Import a DASH file in the iOS app
- From the Settings menu, select General.
- Select Restore your vault.
- Open iCloud Drive, and select the file you want to import. Select Unlock.
- Enter the password you created when you exported the DASH file and select Import selected.
Tip: If your password isn't opening the DASH file, make sure you're using the password you created when exporting the DASH file and not the Master Password for your Dashlane account. If you forgot the password for your DASH file, export a new DASH file using a new password.
