Step 3: Create and log in to your Dashlane account
When you open the Dashlane app for the first time, you'll create a Dashlane account with your email address. This address becomes your username.

Next, you'll decide how to secure your account. You can choose whether you want to use a Master Password, a PIN code, or a physical security key.
Log in with a Master Password
A Master Password is a unique password or memorable passphrase you create to access your Dashlane account.
A strong Master Password keeps your account secure. Your Master Password should be long, unique, and difficult to guess—but something you can remember.
Important: Dashlane can't send you your Master Password if you forget it. No one at Dashlane knows your Master Password, and we don't store your password anywhere.
After you log in with your Master Password, you can set up a PIN code, your fingerprint, or your face as the method to unlock your account.

Log in with a PIN code
PIN-based login is a method to access your Dashlane account without a Master Password. You'll set up a unique PIN for each device.
PIN-based login is secure, phishing-resistant, and easier to use than a password. Depending on your device or browser, you can also use your face or fingerprint to quickly access your account.
Log in with a security key
A physical security key login is a method to access your Dashlane account without a Master Password, with strong protection against phishing attacks.
To use a security key, create your account in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on a computer. After that, you can log in to Dashlane with your security key on Android or in Chrome or Edge on any computer.

On your computer, you'll select Get started in the left menu. On your mobile device, the For you tab opens with steps to complete.

Step 4: Add your data and details
Your Dashlane vault is your secure, encrypted storage for logins, payment details, and personal data. Continue to add your logins, personal info, payment details, IDs, and Secure Notes to your vault.

A login consists of your username or email, password, and website address. Logins appear alphabetically in your vault.

Log in to your online accounts, including websites, apps, social media, and bank accounts with passkeys. Passkeys provide a safer, easier, and faster way to log in than passwords.

Add credit and debit cards, PayPal info, and bank accounts to your vault. Your payment methods are secure and ready to use for online purchases.

Store sensitive information—alarm codes, account numbers, recovery keys for external accounts, and private notes up to 10,000 characters. You can also attach sensitive documents, such as passports or birth certificates, to a Secure Note.

Save your name, address, and phone number in your vault. Autofill this data for deliveries, job applications, and other online forms.

Save details from your passport, social security card, and other ID documents. Autofill this information whenever you need it.

When you visit a website, look for the Dashlane D icon in the login or address fields. Dashlane's autofill recognizes forms on millions of websites and instantly fills the fields with the information and logins saved in your vault.

Password Generator
You can use the Password Generator to create strong passwords or passphrases for all your logins.
When you create or update a login, Dashlane can generate and save a complex password or passphrase to give your account as much protection as possible. You can also use the Password Generator to produce passwords or passphrases with specific standards of length and complexity.

2-factor authentication (2FA)
Turn on 2-factor authentication (2FA) for an extra layer of security in your online life and require two-step verification when you log in.
Secure sharing
Use Dashlane's secure sharing feature to share sensitive information instead of insecure methods like emails and text messages. You can share logins and Secure Notes containing important info like software keys, alarm codes, and account numbers with others using Dashlane.

Virtual private network (VPN)
Use our VPN for additional security on unsecure networks, such as public Wi-Fi. We offer VPN protection with Dashlane Premium and Friends & Family plans. Friends & Family plan managers have VPN access, but members invited to the plan don't.
