The Dashlane macOS app gives you access to your passwords, passkeys, payment details, and personal info on your Mac computer. The macOS app opens in its own window on your desktop, not in a browser tab. The macOS app workflows resemble the Dashlane iPad app workflows.
With the Dashlane Premium and Friends & Family plans, you can store unlimited passwords and access your data on unlimited devices. These plans also include Dark Web Monitoring, which checks whether your email addresses appear in data breaches. The Premium plan also includes a virtual private network (VPN), so you can use public Wi-Fi on your macOS app.

Important: Apple's limitations mean you still need the Safari extension for autofill to work, even with the macOS app installed. The extension includes the same autofill improvements available on Chrome and Firefox, with an Apple-native experience.

On Mac computers, you need macOS 15.0 (Sequoia) or later to use the Dashlane macOS app or the Safari browser extension.

Get started
To use the Dashlane macOS app, you need to install the Dashlane app from the App Store. After you install the app, you can create an account or log in to your existing account. Then follow the steps in the For you tab to set up your account and add your data and details.

After you finish the checklist, open For you whenever a badge appears on the tab. A badge means you have new notifications or security alerts.

Set up account recovery options
Recommended: Turn on at least one account recovery method, such as a recovery key, fingerprint recovery, or admin-assisted recovery for professional plans. If you forget your Master Password or account PIN, you can use a recovery method to access your account. Without a recovery method, you may need to reset your account, which erases all your data.
2-factor authentication (2FA) in the Dashlane macOS app
You can log in to the Dashlane macOS app with 2FA. To view or change your 2FA settings, open Dashlane in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or a Chromium-based browser such as Brave, Opera, or Vivaldi.

Note: The Dashlane macOS app doesn't autofill 2FA tokens for logins saved in your vault. Copy the token from the item details screen and then paste the token into the 2FA field.
Dark theme on the Dashlane macOS app
To use the dark theme on the Dashlane macOS app, you need to change your macOS device to the dark theme. You make this change on your device, not in the Dashlane app.

Unlock the Dashlane macOS app with your fingerprint
With Touch ID, you unlock the Dashlane macOS app with your fingerprint instead of your Master Password. If you log in with a Master Password, you can also unlock the macOS app with a device-specific PIN.
Follow these steps to turn on Touch ID:
- In the Dashlane macOS app, select the gear icon preceding the left menu.
- Select Security and turn on Use Touch ID.
- Enter your Master Password.
Dashlane still asks you to enter your Master Password in some situations:
- After you restart your Mac
- After you log out of Dashlane manually
- When you change certain settings or update your Master Password
- Periodically, to help you remember your Master Password
Note: Touch ID works in the Dashlane macOS app but not in the Safari extension.
Reset your Master Password with your fingerprint in the Dashlane macOS app
You need to turn on Biometric recovery before you forget your Master Password. Dashlane can't send or reset your Master Password for you. Without a recovery method, you might need to reset your account, which erases all your data in Dashlane.
Biometric recovery isn't available if your professional plan uses single sign-on (SSO), because SSO accounts don't have a Master Password.
Biometric recovery requires the Use Touch ID setting. Follow these steps to turn on both settings:
- Turn on Touch ID
- Turn on Biometric recovery. Enter your Master Password.
If you turn off Use Touch ID, Dashlane also turns off Biometric recovery. Dashlane turns off both settings when you add a new fingerprint to your Mac or log out of Dashlane manually. To turn the settings on again, log in with your Master Password and repeat the steps.
After you turn on Biometric recovery, Dashlane offers to reset your Master Password in these situations:
- You enter an incorrect Master Password
- Touch ID doesn't recognize your fingerprint
If you use 2-factor authentication (2FA), you also need to enter the token from your authenticator app.
