2-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your online life by requiring two steps when you log in to an account. Along with your password, you enter a 2FA token from an authenticator app or a code sent by email.
You can use 2FA with Dashlane in two main ways:
- Protect your Dashlane account: Use an authenticator app to generate the 2FA token you enter when you log in to Dashlane.
- Protect your other accounts: Dashlane stores the 2FA tokens for the sites and apps in your vault, so you can log in without a separate authenticator app.
When you log in to Dashlane on a new device, Dashlane sends a code to your email. This code is also a form of 2FA, but we discuss it in a different article.

Protect your Dashlane account with 2FA
You can turn on 2FA for added protection when you log in to your Dashlane account. When 2FA is on, we ask for a 6-digit token from an authenticator app on your mobile device in addition to your Master Password.
What type of accounts can I use 2FA with? 2FA for your Dashlane account is available only for accounts protected by a Master Password.
Do you use single sign-on (SSO) to log in to Dashlane? You might have 2FA through your organization. If you have questions about 2FA and SSO, ask your plan admin.
Are you an admin of a Dashlane professional plan? You can enforce 2FA for your members in the Controls tab of the Admin Console.

Protect logins stored in Dashlane with 2FA
You can turn on 2FA for important logins stored in Dashlane. When the website or app asks for a 2FA token, you'll find it in the login in your Dashlane vault.
Not all websites and apps can use Dashlane for 2FA. Some require you to use a specific authenticator app or receive codes by email or text message.
When you share a login with another Dashlane user, you also share that login's 2FA token. The person you share with can see the 2FA tokens wherever they use Dashlane.
