Passwordless login is currently only available when you create an account for a Dashlane personal plan.
What if I already have a Dashlane account?
I have a passwordless account and want to buy or join a Dashlane professional plan
You can create and access your Dashlane account without a Master Password. We call this feature passwordless login or passwordless authentication. To access your account, you authenticate yourself—or prove your identity—without entering a Master Password. You use a PIN code or biometrics instead, depending on the device or browser you're using.
Passwordless login is highly secure and makes accessing Dashlane easier than ever before. You no longer need to create and remember a complicated Master Password to safely manage your online life.
How does passwordless login work?
You can set up passwordless login when creating a Dashlane account.
- After choosing your Dashlane login email address, you'll decide how to secure your account. You can choose an account protected by a Master Password or a passwordless account.
- If you choose passwordless login, you'll set up a PIN code or biometrics depending on your device, which you'll use to lock and unlock your account. Your PIN and biometrics are device- and browser-specific, meaning they only work on the phone, tablet, computer, and browser where you set them up.
- We ask you to create an account recovery key, which lets you get back into your account if you're logged out on all devices. Save your key in a safe place.
- After setting up your passwordless account on one device, you can log in on other devices using a method we call the “security challenge." In certain situations, you can also use a QR code to set up your passwordless account on a new device.
Add devices with the security challenge
Add devices with a QR code - You'll use your PIN or biometrics to lock and unlock your Dashlane account. With both PIN and biometrics, you have three tries to unlock your account. If you enter the wrong PIN or your biometrics fail three times in a row, you'll need to use the security challenge or a QR code to log back in again. You'll also need to use the security challenge or a QR code if you log out manually.
Important: To log in using the security challenge or a QR code on one device, you must be logged in to Dashlane on another device. If you've logged out of all devices, your account recovery key is the only way to get back into your passwordless account. Make sure to save your account recovery key in a safe place. You may reuse your recovery key if you need to regain access to your account.
What makes passwordless login secure?
Passwordless authentication is easy and convenient but also more secure than previous ways of protecting and accessing your account. Currently, you prove your identity when logging in to an account by providing something that only you know—a password. But passwords come with important risks:
- Cybercriminals can steal your password in security breaches or phishing attacks
- Others can potentially guess your password, especially if it's simple
- A complex password can be hard to remember and cause you to lose access to your accounts if you forget it
Passwordless authentication gets rid of many of these problems in two ways:
- You use a device-specific PIN or biometrics to access your account. Your PIN is easy to remember, and biometrics means you don't need to remember anything. So you're unlikely to get locked out of your account and lose data.
- But your PIN and biometrics only work on the device where you set them up. Additionally, biometrics only works if you're physically present when trying to access the device. So accessing the account illegally — through a security breach or as part of a phishing attack — is extremely difficult.
Tips: For extra security, choose a PIN for Dashlane that’s different from the PIN you use to log in to your phone or computer. Always make sure to lock your app when you're not using it.

Common questions about passwordless login
Can I change from an account protected by a Master Password to a passwordless Dashlane account?
You can change an existing account protected by a Master Password to a passwordless account by resetting and then recreating your account. To avoid losing data, export your data before resetting your account. You'll import it again after recreating your account. Follow these steps:
- Export your data to a secure DASH file
-
Reset your account
Warning! Resetting your account will erase all data associated with your account. If you don't export first, you'll lose any logins or other data saved in your account.
- Create a passwordless account
- Import your data back into your passwordless account
Important: If you've shared items with other Dashlane customers, you'll need to share them again after recreating your account.
Is passwordless login for Dashlane the same as passkeys?
Passwordless login allows you to access your Dashlane account without a Master Password. On a technical level, our version of passwordless login doesn't involve passkeys. But for the person logging in, the experience will be similar to accessing an account using a passkey.
You can also use Dashlane to store passkeys for other websites and apps.
Which Dashlane apps can I use with passwordless login?
You can create a passwordless account in any Dashlane app. Then you can add other devices to your account using either of these methods:
If you aren't logged in to Dashlane on any of your devices, you can't use a QR code or the security challenge to add another device. Instead, you can use your account recovery key to get back in to your Dashlane account. You may reuse your recovery key if you need to regain access to your account.
What if I lose my phone or computer?
If you lose a device where you've set up passwordless login for Dashlane, your PIN or biometrics will prevent others from accessing your account.
You should revoke access to your account for the lost device as soon as possible. Revoking access means removing the device's permission to use your Dashlane account. You can always add the device to your account again later.
You can still access and protect your account even if you lose access to all the devices as long as you’ve set up an account recovery key.
